First in what will, no doubt, be a long line of SERENITY reviews...

Paul and I caught a screening of BATMAN BEGINS last night (my third, his second) and the trailer for SERENITY came on and I voiced my lack of enthusiasm as he hopped up and down in his seat like a little boy ( Read more... )

I gave FIREFLY a chance when it was broadcast...I saw the train robery episode and then missed a couple and then saw the episode 'Jaynestown' and just kind of...Yeah...they weren't very good so I quit.

Then I watched the DVD's and realised that it just so happened that I saw the worst two episodes of the run. It was a mistake for the network to go without airing the pilot. The Train Job was the first episode aired and we, the audience, knew nothing about any of the characters so I, as a viewer, didn't care about the characters. But, again, after I saw them all, there was some good opportunity for further exploration of things set up (such as the Reavers) but we never got that because of the cancellation.

I did enjoy it...But I guess I don't get all burned up when TV shows are cancelled.

Man.... I've seen a lot of reviews and I wrote one myself. I really don't think that there are too many things a person who hasn't seen the series won't get. They're pretty good about it, really.

And the character deaths are something that people will be talking about a lot. I don't think this is a nail in the coffin at all. I thought that this was motivation. That this was an origin story for a movement that will become much more. At the end of this story, these characters can go on to make /huge/ changes in this universe (and they've already started) and the cause that they've never stopped fighting for (on Mal's part at least) is at least possible again.

I don't know. I see this as a fantastic point where these characters can be motivated by the tragedy they've just been through to go out and make a difference again.

Maybe it's just me.

I downloaded firefly and watched it recently myself... I enjoyed it immensely.
Sci-Fi will be playing all the old episodes... even the pilot, in order soon, and my guess is if it gets a huge success there, it might be picked up by sci-fi. They tend to do that with sci-fi shows.
