The DX hookup wasn't what surprised me (even though it squicks me out a little) since they've been dropping hints all along, it was the fact that Buffy has feelings for the Xan-man. They've been dropping hints for that as well, but I still never thought I'd see the day when Buffy started having feelings for him. And now I'm like, woah, is this really happening? Of course, as a BXer its frustrating to know BX gets brought to the table only for it to be hindered by Buffy's little sister of all folks. Joss never makes it simple does he?

No, but a lot of the fun is in it not being simple. That's why we get to write our fun things! If everything we wanted happened, what would there be for us to fix?

Oh man. Okay, new theory.

What if we're getting Jossed here, and the context for Dawn and Xander a-smoochin' was a whole, "Is there any spark?" sort of affair?

I don't buy it. They've been setting it up too long, and I think it's legit.

That said, it's entirely possible.

I like the pairing. Not as much as I like Xander/Faith, but I like the pairing.

Dunno if it's a development that exists only for Buffy to realize she actually has feelings for Xander (AKA, the only available non father figure male around), or if it will be developed as a serious relationship.

For my money, Xander's still dead meat by the end of S8, so...

Hopefully, no. Xander's the only male in the "regular cast". Looks like Giles has been demoted from a regular to a recurring character - and Joss just can't have an all-girls cast.

Except... hate to argue against a "they can't kill Xander!" post, but it looks to me like Andrew's been promoted to regular castmember.

I'm really crossing my fingers for Xander's fate this "season." Given that the X/D wasn't all that surprising to me - I actually think they laid the groundwork pretty well. And well, happy endings don't happen in this universe, apparently, and Xander's already lost one girlfriend...

My impression is that right now Andrew is a comic relief and Xander is a romantic lead. At least, that's how the artists draw him - virile, fit, sexy.

I think that Buffyverse's strongest (and most controvencial, alas) aspect is relationships. Mostly - love relationships. And writers don't pair Andrew with anybody. I vaguely remember Joss saying that Andrew might be gay. He can't replace Xander in the shippy department, so-to-speak.

I agree that a happy ending in Jossverse is unlikely, but I think it will be Dawn who'll suffer the consequences. I wonder if "the end of all magic" could turn her back into a green ball of energy.

For the simple reason there is no way out of it without damaging the characters.

Either Joss goes the full Joxer route with Xander or he does something worse.
