Preferred computer backup method?

DVD-RW's

or

External HD

Why? What brands do you like? Price differences?

:o

I need at least 50 gigs worth of backup space.. I just realized I have no idea how much room writable DVDs hold, haha.

I agree with everyone else here. The only drawback to an external hard drive is if you lose/drop it. Then all your data is gone, as opposed to just losing 5GBs worth with a DVD. It's happened to my friends and they were not amused :P

DVDs and CDs eventually deteriorate anyway, something to do with the aluminum embedded in them. Some cheap CDs can become unusable within a year. I don't know how long you were planning on keeping the data though.

External Harddrive but be careful what kind you buy. Like a cheap moron I went for an inexpensive one that literally started smoking the third time I plugged it in. *headdesk*

External sounds good. I don't have one, but I soon will have one. I use the DVD RW method, and trust me, it's a pain in the ass keeping track of so many CDs. You need protective cases for them, and a place to store those said cases. ^^;
