i never really liked that book. it was a curious attempt to rouse thrill but other than that, there seems to be little value in it, in as far as literary merit is concerned.

Correct. Dan Brown himself admitted that he did not write it to be lauded and applauded by the literary circuit. He merely wanted to give a swashbuckling story that would entertain. Sadly, it was at the expense of the Catholic Church and Chirstians alike.
