Analogies Gone Wild!

I've never taken much interest in the Lambda Awards. I wasn't aware they'd recently changed their policy, electing, from this year on, to only consider books by LGBT authors. But the response to this policy change definitely caught my attention. It's the kind of thing I've always had a sneaking suspicion existed under the surface. But it's more ( Read more... )

Whoa. Some of those comments are just ... whoa. ANd some of the comparisons are cringe-worthy to say the least.

I never paid attention to the Lambda awards either, but I completely support and respect their decision (and I say it's about frigging time they made it and het female britches-rippers was for once NOT recognized as "GLBT literature").

Geez, I thought that was what the Lambda awards were for. I always thought the awards were in recognition of well written fiction by members of the GLBT community. A promotion, if you will, of literature that may not have a wide audience because the circumstances of our society.

I just read LLF's statement as posted to its website on September 25, 2009. How much fairer can the foundation be than already having other awards for those writers who don't meet the criteria, but yet write gay and lesbian themed fiction? Sometimes, some people ask for too much. I applaud the foundation for making it clear what the awards stand for.

I've been reading up on all this via metafandom and the whole thing makes me sick in my stomach. The reaction of some of those straight female slash writers has guaranteed my departure from most of that genre.
