i keep having these dreams where burial and planting are interchangeable. like i'll be burying a dead bird, and suddenly i'm planting a seed instead. it happens the other way around too.
You might already know this, as you seem to know many arcane things--
But Greeks viewed being buried as dying, as in burying a seed meant it died and then was brought back to life when it sprouted. Dead people were always buried, or creamted and buried--dying in a shipwreck was disastrous, as it meant you were never buried and so weren't really dead, but kind of wandering and insubstantial. Demeter and Persephone get all wrapped up in it when Persephone gets taken to the underworld to be Hades' bride (She is basically dead, and Demeter runs around mourning accordingly) and Demeter refuses to let planted (buried) seeds come back to life, until Persephone has come back from the dead, so to speak. Lots of stuff about the cycle of life/rebirth.
