In my experience, management loves MS products because:
-Easy to use. -People already familiar with it. -Already made, can be implemented on the spot. -Compatible with other MS stuff. -Comes with external support and updates.
I recommended Sharepoint when we were building our intranet even though I personally hate it. I did so because the user with even modest computer skills could maintain it and actually use it for it's intended purpose, information sharing. Creating a drag and drop feature from excel or outlook into a custom utility would have taken forever.
The wider the user base, the more retarded a technology needs to be if it is to be efficient. You can't make people smart (cost effectively), but you can make technology stupid. Since neither works well without the other, they have to mesh.

That must be a difficult opinion to rationally support. But I suppose if they were rational, you wouldn't have ranted.
