AT&T lies again

Nov 29, 2009 07:48

a while ago, AT&T had to pull an ad campaign "fewest dropped calls" (source) because it was found that they were lying.

now, verizon hit them where they hurt, and they are pissed. They have had a resurgence with the iPhone being exclusively AT&T, but a good percent of iPhone users cite AT&T's service as the worst part of the deal (source). now ( Read more... )

Jason wants an iPhone in the worst way, and I won't let him switch us to AT&T. I have some friends and family in California with an iPhone and I can't understand a goddamn word they say when they call me. The voice quality is horrid. Plus there's a dropped call like every 5 minutes.

well, 66% of this household does NOT have a cell phone. Those stats drop to 50% on the days E's here. But based on my interactions with the public at large, it sure as heck FEELS like 97% of the population carries one...

AT&T got the iPhone deal because Verizon, the carrier Apple originally wanted to go with, felt it was to much of a hassle. AT&T bent over backwards to accommodate Apple and get the deal.

Not to mention that they've also taken to lying about what other phones do compared to the phones on their network. They've come out with what is basically their anti-Droid commercial and filled it full of lies.

I wonder what would happen if they spent the money they are spending on false marketing on improving service...

teh part i find funny and sad is they never will compete in the method they are trying to.

Verizon will always have them beat nationwide. As long as Verizon stays on the technology that has been around longer and is more developed here in the US, no GSM carrier can compete. The advantage of GSM is that it is global and CDMA carriers like Verizon are not. Verizon may offer you to switch to a Vodafone device when you travel at practically no cost, but it is a different phone, requires setup, may not have the features you are use to, and will all around be a pain. If you travel, AT&T is your best bet (for the crappy service it is). BUT, they choose to fight the battle on a front they have to lie and manipulate data to try and seem competative.

AT&T is only better for international travel for the moment (and T-Mobile would work just as well)

Once LTE gets rolled out, which Verizon will do long before AT&T, there will be some serious changes in the mobile business.

I've been on Sprint for years, but I'm tempted to pick up an iPhone, unlock it, and get a T-Mobile account.
