I apologize, it was not my intent to offend. I will amend to reflect and include all those that are capable of independent thought.

I usually use emotions as a way to define the human condition.

I am a battle droid built specifically for combat, and am thus unable to perceive emotions as humans do.

Do you experience that yourself, or are you similar in build to me?

I experience emotions myself. [contrary to certain beliefs]

I understand the concept of emotion, but am currently unable to fully comprehend what it is like to have them, since I do not.

Do you find them to be a hindrance?

Uhm, well... I always thought it was, like, having a soul that makes people people. 'Cause not having one is what makes people not people.

I am familiar with the term and the concept, but am still questioning as to what exactly it is.

[It's nothing scientific, after all. Zee deals in data not theology.]

Uh... [Andrew barely even knows what a soul is. But he's going to guess.] I think it's kinda like having a conscience? Feeling bad when you hurt someone?

Hm.

[Now that, she lacks for the most part.]

Interesting. Do you have one?

Um, I can think for myself. Though I do have to serve my purpose proudly.

You have to serve, or you choose to?

Well, I think it's a fair mix of both, Miss Zee. Sometimes I can't really choose whether I want to or not.

...I'm not very good at these kinds of questions.

I think the right answer is, you need to have a ghost? But, I don't think it's very clearly defined, and neither is how to tell if you have one or not.

First Mate Kage told me that if we're here on the ship as passengers, then it means that we have ghosts of our own. Even we AI do!

Do you want to be like the humans, Miss Z?

battle_droid December 3 2010, 02:47:50 UTC
Neither am I.

[That's interesting.]

We do? I do not see how that is possible.

[Another pause.]

I...am uncertain. I do feel as though certain emotions would prove detrimental to my overall purpose.

[The unsaid 'BUT. . .' is loud and clear.]

I don't think Mister Marco's right at all. Emotions are just a benchmark humans use to evaluate us when we've become to internally complex to judge by the old methods!

In other words, it's a short-cut!

Of course, it's nice to have some emotions, right? It's a method of self-determination, I think. Like normal logic, except that it operates under different constraints.

Sound logic.

I would not know, I am as of yet unable to experience any kind of emotion.

[Not exactly the truth, but she doesn't perceive her flickers as emotions.]
