Sakura is not quite sure how to deal with srsjimbattle_in_bloomOctober 18 2009, 10:03:31 UTC
How do you know? I mean...it all depends on a person's perspective anyway, doesn't it? You think it's always an excuse. Other people might think it's always an explanation. I don't think I worded the question very well, maybe I should change it.
\o/ and Jim is too srs to tease her about it. :/chairismineOctober 18 2009, 19:00:32 UTC
Excuses are explanations, Sakura. The difference is, using 'excuse' implies that you're aknowledging that the actions are less than completely favourable.
I don't know. I was thinking more along the lines of an excuse being trying to escape or lessen the blame. Maybe I meant...when does it stop being a legitimate excuse?

Lemme tell you something, Pinky. When I was a bounty hunter, I had to find a lot of guys who deserve to have their heads kicked in. But there were also jobs for kids. Kids, damn it. But I knew that because of my job I could say no. Not because the job was too dangerous and not because I didn't need the money, but because at the end of the day, I had to answer to myself.
Damn, now I actually feel old. Telling stories to kids already? I should be in a home.
But you had a clear moral guideline there, and you only had to answer to yourself.
If...if someone with power hurts someone whose has less power, but is trying to get more...and the way they're trying to get more with result in someone else getting hurt...
Okay the only thing coming out of this is that power is stupid.
The point is, it's the person using it that's stupid. They say power corrupts, but I've seen some good people with power, as hard as it is to believe. You act like you don't know who to answer to, but you're old enough now that you should only have to listen to yourself.
You're a smartie, Sakura. Pull yourself back up and dust yourself off.
Sakura is getting all Ravenclaw on her. ANSWERS DAMNIT, NOW.battle_in_bloomOctober 18 2009, 18:44:50 UTC
What if the situation isn't about individuals? I just - who can claim the moral superiority to decide that!? What if you choose wrong? Who decides if you choose wrong?
The moment men claim they are working for the greater good they have lost their way. They see the greater good as securing their own power, and never question if that is good for all or just for them.
Those who put themselves in a position of judgment over others can never claim the moral high ground. Perhaps what they did was necessary, but that does not excuse them from the consequences. Those who act for the greater good should be willing to step forward and be punished for what they have done, not hide behind slogans.
My Sakura, this certainly is a heavy topic for idle musings.

... It hurts more when you know it isn't a lie.

...I can see how that would work.

... We decide the greater good, Sakura. Individuals decide what that is, because how can there ever be just one set answer?

I hate that there aren't any answers to this!

How do you know that you even chose wrong in the first place?

I'm sorry, my head is about to explode, I didn't sleep very well last night.

That makes the most sense so far. It's still not really an answer, but--
You're so right. Thank you, sensei.
I'm a Ravenclaw; this is the sort of thing we do for fun.

You're welcome.
Of course. If you feel the need for any more musings, my door is always open.
