.01-02 Challenge.
Results will be up in an hour or so, but here’s your second challenge. Those of you who missed the deadline for challenge one, please be sure to meet the deadline for this week especially considering there’s a lot of opportunity for bonus points.
We’ve all shown that anything the other team can do you can do better, but this week we’re going to focus on an old adage - “If you can’t beat them... join them.”
I’m sure you’re wondering what this means in the terms of a challenge. Each demographic has it’s own strengths both in story and in icon design. We’re going to tackle both of these areas in a single icon. Shounen series are known for their action - epic battles, chases, good versus evil - it’s all about the action. Shoujo series are known for their romances whether it be the romance between a girl and a boy or a romance between two boys, romance is a major point of many shoujo series.
Team shounen will be making an icon of a shounen series, but it must focus on romance.
Team shoujo will be making an icon of a shoujo series, but it must focus on action/fighting.
Of course, in order to really join them, you’ll need to incorporate some of the common traits found in icons made for each demographic. You can earn one extra point for fulfilling each of the following criteria, to a max of 3 bonus points:
- team shoujo: bold colors, team shounen: soft colors
- team shoujo: basic sans serif fonts team shounen: calligraphy/script fonts (you may use other fonts not found on dafont, these are simply linked as possibilities/style guide)
- team shoujo: geometric textures/brushes (stripes, circles, squares, etc.), team shounen: floral and/or light textures
BONUS ICON
For two extra points, you can make a second icon that plays to your own team's strengths. The criteria listed above both the main and bonus criteria still apply except you’ll be doing the opposite. Making a second icon with all the bonus criteria will result in 5 bonus points plus any you get from voting.
For clarification this means that team shounen will be making an icon of a shounen series featuring an action scene and using the bonus requirements marked for team shoujo from the main challenge. Team shoujo will make an icon of a shoujo series featuring romance using the bonus requirements marked for team shounen from the main challenge.
