Ugh, I always knew I had an irrational phone phobia, but today was the closest I've ever come to actually getting hysterical about it. e_e Social anxiety is dumb, u gaiz. Moving on

I haven't run into any outright antagonism, and I think that might be part of the problem. I'm used to being comfortable, comparatively speaking -- I enjoy enough privilege that I don't necessarily feel like my right to exist or self-identify is being challenged on a daily basis. Locally speaking, these things don't often come up in conversation, and when they have, I've been lucky enough to be in the company of those who, if not completely understanding of my viewpoints, have been willing to learn, or at the very least, certainly haven't reacted hostilely

If it makes you feel any better, I'm about as straight as it gets. Sometimes I do feel like a muggle though, being surrounded as I am by traps and bis and gays who enjoy secret shared things that I will never understand.
Until recently I had assumed that all girls were bi, because all the girls I got to know to that level of intimacy were at least bi. Apparently this isn't true. I'm not sure what that says for my taste in women, or their taste in me?
There's a secret handshake, too, but I've never gotten the hang of it. But it seems that you're still privy to mysteries beyond my ken--for example, what are traps?
I've had conversations with straight ladies who were of the opinion that on a purely aesthetic point, the female form is easily the more pleasing. Which means that dudes everywhere are already lagging behind in the attraction game ;P
I could never fathom why anyone would want to sex a man. Girls are soft and pretty and smell nice. Guys are unhygienic and pointy and hairy. It's bad enough BEING one of them...
"Trap" is a cautionary term for a woman with a penis (from a line spoken by Admiral Ackbar in The Return of the Jedi).
In HS, the marching band was where it was at. They won nationals and things and everyone want to be on it. They were the coolest (and had all the cute boys).
Nowadays, I have (almost) no straight friends in IC and none that I see regularly. I work with a couple of straight people, but my manager is a raging gay, so I get by. My favorite hobby, since I'm on IC/CV buses all the time, is to look at other passengers and switch their sexes. This city is ridiculous and really screws with my head when I head home to the Chicagolandian suburbs because no one understands that there. Here, people are so fluid and you can never really assume. It's a beautiful mindfuck.
Was that even on topic? I don't know. But it's something. I enjoyed your entry, if that's a consolation. X_x
Oh man, bandos. Ours was a pretty big deal, too; I don't know if they won everything, but it was huge.
It's a beautiful mindfuck.
YES. You were totes on topic, and helped me realize the cause of my disconnect: it's totally IOWA CITY's fault for being so cool. (And hopefully it will stay cool :F.)
