Biography:
Larvitar is essentially the "runt" of her litter of fellow Larvitar and Totodile siblings. Her parents are silver_rival's Feraligatr and Tyranitar. Before their children hatched from their eggs, Silver publicly gave away the eggs to trainers who were deemed worthy of upholding responsibility for them; most trainers were judged by Tyranitar and/or Feraligatr themselves. Paul was one of the few who was not judged by either, but rather entrusted by Silver. Initially, Paul did not want an egg at all, but Silver's intentions were fueled by his desire to see Paul deal with one of his most glaring flaws: his lack of patience, by giving him a Larvitar; a species that took an especially long time to fully evolve. By virtue of being challenged alone, Paul consented to Silver's wishes and took a Larvitar egg.

Paul was less than pleased not only to get a very shy and sensitive Larvitar out of the deal, but also a female, as Paul was not used to raising anything other than male Pokemon. Much like Chimchar before her, Larvitar and Paul had zero compatibility as partners. In addition to the adjustment of training a girl Pokémon, Paul was also not used to training Pokémon from such a young age, especially when they would take over fifty levels to fully evolve. Due to this, Paul resorted to shortcuts by forcing Larvitar to learn powerful moves through TMs that she wasn't ready to take on yet, such as Hyper Beam. Being so naturally weak and emotionally fragile already worked against Larvitar, but it was even worse when she had to undergo Paul's rigorous training schedule, as her age and inexperience meant nothing to Paul; he trained her like he would train any of his seasoned veterans. Her lack of cooperation caused Paul to take an especially nasty route of training with her, forcing her to take the unpleasant forms of medicine (such as Energy Roots) only on rare occasion and later deciding to utilize a combination of Endure + Frustration to bring out her true power. The only reason for why things played out the way they did beyond Paul's impatience was the fact that Paul had thought he had lost his Weavile due to a then-recent Earthquake incident and was down one player in the middle of a tournament he was participating in, leaving Paul no choice but to consider Larvitar Weavile's replacement even though she was nowhere near ready to compete on that level. Paul was completely unaware that his training exercises were much too dangerous for a baby Pokémon and was inadvertently killing the young Larvitar in the process. Many people, enemies and allies alike, did not approve of what Paul was doing.

One day while training, Paul was ordering all of his regular Pokémon to attack Larvitar at once and expected her to take every single blow (again, much like how he trained Chimchar to draw out its Blaze ability). Out of nowhere, a Tyranitar - Larvitar's mother - came in and took the combined attacks and immediately proceeded to slaughter Paul's entire team, as well as give Paul himself considerable damage. Torterra got the worst of this attack for trying to protect Paul and several victims nearly died as a result of this; Paul in particular was concussed for several hours and Torterra was unable to walk for a month after this incident. After all was said and done, Paul conceded to surrender Larvitar to the mother Tyranitar; in spite of his efforts, Paul never wanted Larvitar to begin with, so it didn't take much after the onslaught to convince him to give her up for good.

Months later, Larvitar found a new trainer in lilsilverrascal, whom she remains with to this day. Silver is considerably kinder towards her and is trying to get her to open up, though she may forever carry the physical and emotional scars of her days as Paul's Pokémon.

Biography:
Paul met Chimchar one fateful day when the poor little creature was being chased by a pack of wild Zangoose, though for what reason was never discerned. Paul witnessed Chimchar explode with power after being backed into a corner and beaten to near-death and single-handedly fought off every single Zangoose he had been chased by. Clearly impressed with Chimchar's potential, Paul urged Chimchar to come with him so that he could put that hidden strength to good use. Though Chimchar was happy to finally have a trainer who would take care of him, Paul turned out to be far less than the ideal trainer, never giving Chimchar a shred of affection or even respect.

Like all of his Pokémon, Paul put Chimchar under a rigorous training routine where he was never thanked for his efforts and was harshly punished for not living up to Paul's expectations. While Chimchar was miserable under Paul's ownership, he found this to be the lesser evil as he feared being out on his own again. Unlike most of Paul's Pokémon, Chimchar was not at all compatible with Paul and the training regiment was completely ineffective in bringing out the amazing power Paul saw in Chimchar the day they met. Once Chimchar disappointed Paul during Hearthome City's Tag Battle tournament, that was the final straw; Chimchar was released by Paul shortly after the match ended (even though Chimchar and Paul ended up winning the match). Fortunately for Chimchar, Ash (Paul's rival) was there to witness the whole thing and ended up getting Chimchar on the rebound. Though it was awkward to suddenly be in the care of a loving trainer at first after so much time being with Paul, Chimchar ended up meshing much better with Ash.

Over time, his true potential was unleashed thanks to Ash's efforts, though Paul too had a role in Chimchar's growth even after the two were no longer partners. Chimchar evolved to Monferno during the tail end of Ash and Paul's first full battle at Lake Acuity (though Paul won overall regardless) and Paul witnessed Monferno evolving to Infernape some months later, assisting his Electabuzz in saving some captured Pokémon. Not only did Paul witness Infernape's debut, but he also saw Ash help Infernape control its power brought on by Blaze; something Ash initially had trouble with. Paul realized Ash was able to draw out and control the power that he was never even able to bring about in the first place, which is where Paul began to develop a smidgen of respect for Ash.

In pokedressing, however, battlestandby is from a time shortly after the first full battle at Lake Acuity, meaning Paul is only truly familiar with Chimchar as a freshly-evolved Monferno whose powers still need control. He has witnessed Infernape already from various Ashes who are from a later point in anime canon than him, but Paul has great difficulty accepting the reality of the situation, seeing as he has not yet lived through the events that brought about the evolution and control of the Blaze power.

Biography:
Froslass was one of Paul's earliest captures, caught during Paul's ventures in the Hoenn region; the first region Paul traveled through fully. At the time, Froslass was a Snorunt. While powerful, the young and impatient Paul gave up on trying to fully evolve her into Glalie (not knowing at the time that his Snorunt was female) before his Hoenn journey came to an end. Paul sent her to Reggie's daycare, where she was trained by the elder brother off-and-on while Paul traveled through over regions. One day, Reggie happened upon a Dawn Stone, which Snorunt came into contact with and evolved into a Froslass.

Paul was horrified when he came home one day and discovered what his Snorunt had become: first of all, he was uncomfortable with training female Pokémon. Secondly, he did not trust Ghost-types in general, knowing how tricky and mischevious they could be. He demanded Froslass be released immediately, but Reggie refused, urging his brother to give Froslass a chance as her strength grew considerably under his care. Paul eventually conceded to take Froslass along when he ventured into his next region, but once he was far away enough, he was quick to release Froslass and abandon her before she could do anything about it.

At this point in battlestandby's canon, he has not seen Froslass since, but would have had an unexpected reunion with Froslass in Chapter 23. She would force him to take her back again for the Sinnoh League, which a terrified Paul would concede to. Despite not being canon-updated, Paul is faced with Froslass on Awesome Island under the exact same circumstances and now has her available to use. It should be noted that after three years of being imprisoned in a Pokéball, Froslass is a bit unhinged. She's a textbook example of a yandere psycho, and while she isn't the strongest Pokémon on Paul's team, she strikes fear in the hearts of those who face her, even if they are of superior strength.

Biography:
When silver_rival received a Drifloon egg out of nowhere all of a sudden, the same incident with different eggs started to happen to various people across Awesome Island. Paul too was a victim of this strange circumstance, one day finding a Manaphy egg in his backpack. It looked very different from all of the other Pokémon eggs people have received. Paul had a tendency to be negligent in his duties in taking care of the egg; something that would carry on once the egg finally hatched into Manaphy.

While Paul attempted to care for the Prince of the Sea (mainly due to hearing rumors about Manaphy's Heart Swap ability whenever it gets upset), one day changed everything. Manaphy did not get on well with his "older sibling" Lain (Silver's Drifloon) and proceeded to steal berries from her and blow bubbles at her, causing Lain to get caught up in the wind and blow her far, far away. Silver went after her, but spent days trying to find Lain. An accident caused Silver to tear his throat, mortally wounding him. When Paul and Gold found him days later, Paul was distraught as he watched Silver die. He was soon revived later by cozamalotl, but due to the circumstances that ultimately led to Silver's death, Paul threw Manaphy into the ocean in a fit of anger and ordered the baby Pokémon to never return, effectively releasing it.

As soon as Silver recovered and heard the news, he recovered Manaphy and cared for him in Paul's place. Later on, when lilsilverrascal came to Awesome Island and was trying to build up a powerful Pokémon team, Silver suggested to Paul that he give little Silver the Manaphy. As he did, little Silver insisted on a trade; in exchange for Manaphy, Paul received Rhyperior (a Rhyhorn at that time). Manaphy remains with little Silver to this day.

Biography:
Paul captured Ninjask during a stroll in Eterna Forest, wondering what to get his father for his birthday (as big brother Reggie always took these occasions very seriously and expected everyone to participate). Since Paul was not close to his father, he decided to simply catch his old man a decent Pokémon, certain that the Pyramid King would make a killing machine out of it. Ninjask was one of his prospective choices, but shortly after capturing it, Paul witnessed a pack of wild Zangoose chasing after a wild Chimchar. Paul would end up catching Chimchar as well after seeing the amazing power it unleashed after its Blaze ability activated. Paul was very interested in keeping both Pokémon, but knew one ultimately had to serve as a birthday gift for Brandon. Chimchar left enough of a lasting impact on Paul for him to choose the unfortunate chimp as his teammate while Ninjask became Brandon's birthday present that year.

Bear in mind these events happened about half a year (give or take some months) before the Diamond & Pearl anime takes place in this particular Paul's canon. During the time Paul caught Ninjask and Chimchar, Ash was still in Kanto just starting out at the Battle Frontier. Paul would have just finished competing (and losing) in the Silver Conference and returned to Sinnoh from Johto presumably to take a break from journeying or possibly get an early start on his preparations for the Sinnoh League. By the time Brandon received Ninjask from Paul, Ash still likely would not have even gotten his first Frontier Symbol yet, giving Brandon plenty of time to train Ninjask to fit his own style and be a serious contender for Ash when the time came for them to battle.

By Chapter 26 of Travels of the Trifecta! (this Paul is from Chapter 18), Brandon and Paul will cross paths again and Brandon will give Ninjask back to Paul for purposes of being used in the Sinnoh League. Under over a year of Brandon's training, Ninjask would no doubt be super-powerful and worthy of a League competition. However, before a canon update could happen, Paul regained Ninjask (along with his other reserves) on Awesome Island. A short time later, Ninjask was traded to notinmtsilver in exchange for his Noctowl. Ninjask remains under his ownership presently.

Biography:
Captured as a Nidoran♂ during his travels through Kanto, Nidoking stands out as one of Paul's more well-trained Pokémon. Mainly, this is due to the fact that Paul and Nidoking have a few things in common as far as personality goes, as the Nidoking species is prone to fits of rage and violent behavior and often not needing much of a reason to do so. While Paul mellowed out a little over time and usually at least needs a reason to completely lose it (not that it necessarily needs to be a good reason), he was content to let Nidoking cause all the trouble he wanted as long as Paul didn't have to take responsibility for it. Because Nidoking and Paul saw eye-to-eye, Nidoking did not at all mind Paul's brutal methods of training and flourished with it, being the perfect example of how Paul expects most of his Pokémon to flourish under his coaching, as well as a perfect example of a polar opposite of the complete and total mismatch that was Paul and Chimchar.

Considering these factors, this is most likely why Nidoking fared better against Brandon's team of Regis than any of Paul's other Pokémon at the time. However, Nidoking's sometimes-unstable nature sometimes made Paul wary and doubtful that he could keep Nidoking completely under control if he used him too much, hence these days Nidoking spends most of his time at Reggie's daycare; Reggie himself is a fierce enough contender for Nidoking to make him behave. However, it took a long time for Nidoking to fully evolve if only because Paul had some difficulty finding a Moon Stone to allow for this. This was another reason why Paul left him at Reggie's after a while; his impatience getting the best of him once again. Once Paul did finally find a Moon Stone, he was shocked to find that his at-the-time Nidorino had bred with some of the other Pokémon at Reggie's daycare. Even worse: Reggie and all of his customers allowed it in spite of Paul's policy to never let his Pokémon breed. He was quick to use the Moon Stone on Nidoking to prevent his reserve from siring any more babies. After that, Nidoking was not often used out of spite; his last major battle being against Brandon. Nidoking was eventually regained on Awesome Island along with the rest of his reserves.

Biography:
Early on in Paul's journey when he traveled through his first region, Hoenn, Reggie's loss was still fresh in his mind. Fittingly, so was his obsession with becoming strong with only the strongest Pokémon he could find, so there was little surprise when one of his first official captures was none other than a Fighting-type. Naturally, Paul caught his first Fighting-type as a Makuhita since his inexperience wouldn't allow him to capture something so powerful right off the bat. However, the oustanding stamina stat of Paul's Hariyama also reflects on how Paul's style would eventually become a bit deeper than going down the path of sheer power; utilizing tanks as his secret weapons to win battles over the years.

Again, like many of Paul's Pokémon, Hariyama particularly did not mind his trainer's cruel and heartless ways as it was the type that always enjoyed a challenge, no matter how dangerous. He had the endurance to outlast everything Paul could throw at him, which was relatively easy when Paul was just a beginning trainer, though Hariyama could tell over time how especially ruthless his trainer had become. Hariyama did not take his own loss to Regirock well (especially when he had a type advantage), feeling he failed to fight honorably and properly represent the ruthless style of his trainer. However, Paul was never particularly close to Hariyama and didn't use him much after his Hoenn days outside of routine training to keep his skills sharp and the aforementioned battle at Snowpoint City against Brandon's Regis. Hariyama is so out of the loop that he was not aware (until recently, at least) that Pyramid King Brandon was the father of his trainer... and by extension, the source of his inner rage. Hariyama strives to find what can bring him the inner rage that comes so naturally to his trainer, as unlike Nidoking, Hariyama is a bit more honoroable when it comes to battling, with or without a trainer overseeing it.

Biography:
Paul practically ran a marathon attempting to capture this Pokémon. Gliscor was formerly the leader of a herd of Gligar that had gotten caught up in some wayward wind currents which led them all straight into a city where they became lost, confused, and highly destructive as they were unable to find their way back home. All of the Gligar followed Gliscor's lead until a very persistent Paul captured Gliscor, and after examining him, decided he was worth keeping on his team. This capture led to the remaining Gligar going berserk with no leader to follow, but Ash and friends cleaned up that mess eventually.

Gliscor later faced one of its own former pack members in a battle, as Ash caught a Gligar that strayed from the group that same day. Being a capable and powerful leader, as well as intimidating (it didn't help that Ash's Gligar was quite a crybaby at first), Gliscor made short work of Gligar. Gliscor is probably the only Pokémon on Paul's team other than Torterra that has inherent leadership skills, though Gliscor is more of a "hit first, ask questions later" type if Pokémon by comparison, as it was shown to be far less kinder to its unevolved bretheren than Torterra is.

Since then, years later, Paul has been teased about finally getting around to evolving his Lairon during his Sinnoh journey. He started to seriously consider it after his friend-ish acquaintance Conway revealed to have an Aggron himself. Biography:
This shiny female Nidoqueen was forcibly captured by noheartof and his Typhlosion one day as a young, unsuspecting Nidoran♀. His world's starterless refused to allow him to keep her, so Gold decided on a whim to deliver this Nidoran to Paul as a gift, using insultyoulater to be his delivery boy. Despite Paul's protests, he was left to care for the Nidoran on his own.

When Paul confronted Gold about it, Gold simply explained that the Nidoran reminded him of Paul; being the same color as his hair, mainly, but also being rabbit-like, as Gold had recently made a habit of referring to Paul as "rabbit" after an incident where Paul wisely chose to walk away from Gold rather than fight him. Green suggested that Paul raise the Nidoran anyway and eventually evolve her to Nidoqueen so that one day she'll be powerful enough to throw Gold into a lake as punishment for all of the horrible things he had done. Silver also expressed interest in seeing Paul use this Nidoran to one day take Gold down, however informally it may be.

Paul is apprehensive about raising Nidoqueen as he all-too-well remembers how his last attempt to raise a young baby female Pokémon went. However, as Paul is attempting to leave everything from his past behind him, he's seeing Nidoqueen as a perfect opportunity to begin anew and prove to everyone that he's truly changed; for good, this time. He's having difficulties, but Paul at least is able to forgo his pride and ask for help these days. One day, Paul really does hope to make Nidoqueen strong, though the experience is proving to be very different from the time he raised a Nidoran♂ to a Nidoking back home. He is making the effort to bond with Nidoqueen and often carries her around in his arms rather than keeping her in a Pokéball. This has led to Nidoqueen becoming quite attached, as she insists on being carried even after evolving and gaining several pounds upon doing so. Paul's taken a liking to Nidoqueen - something he hopes will make this partnership succeed, unlike his spectacular failure to connect with Larvitar.

Paul was able to get Nidoqueen fully evolved with a Moonstone he received as a Christmas present from the falsifiedsmile he's currently crushing on. Due to her massive consumption of mysterious Lilan Berries as a Nidorina, her coloring seems to have been permanently altered upon evolving. Hence, instead of being green as normal shiny Nidoqueen are, Paul's Nidoqueen remains to be as purple as it was during its previous evolutions.

Noctowl was a member of notinmtsilver team for nearly a decade before he came into Paul's ownership. Though Noctowl was a powerful and reliable Pokemon for Ash (not to mention unique, given his shiny golden color and a much smaller size than most Noctowl tend to be), his strengths were not ideal for the majority of Ash's strategies. He was more defensively-oriented, which better matches Paul's taste in Pokemon. tsuuuun suggested Noctowl be traded to Paul so his strengths could be better utilized. In exchange, Paul traded his Ninjask - a very speedy Pokemon with relatively weak defenses that matches Ash's tastes more than his former owner's. It was difficult for Ash to part with a Pokemon he'd been through so much with, but since he and Paul saw each other on a near-daily basis anyway, it wasn't too hard to part with Noctowl in the end.

Noctowl is extremely intelligent, but much like the rest of Ash's Pokemon, he's also extremely friendly and affectionate. He likes to roost on Paul's shoulder and cuddle against his cheek; something that makes Paul very uncomfortable. His new trainer has fortunately made a conscious decision to change and soften up a little and so far they have had good compatibility. Paul is looking forward to working with Noctowl more in the future. Being trained off-and-on for almost a decade makes Noctowl Paul's most powerful Pokemon by default.

Kingdra was given to Paul as an egg on Christmas Day by mischiefbreeder. Unlike the other egg Paul received that day, Kingdra (as a Horsea) hatched within a day. The young Horsea was one of many offspring made from Gold's Politaro (Politoed) and tsuuuun Kingdra. Due to this, Kingdra from the start had inherited Politaro's powerful moves. Since he's still growing and rather immature, though, he's rather undisciplined and often takes it out on his trainer. Also on Christmas Day, Silver gave Paul a Dragon Scale specifically so that when his Horsea would evolve to Seadra, it could evolve to Kingdra at any time. Horsea evolved to Seadra almost six months after Paul received him and had learned Hydro Pump. Silver came by that same day and assisted Paul with the trade necessary to evolve Seadra to Kingdra. Now fully evolved, Kingdra has the honor of being Paul's first Dragon-type Pokemon.

Biography:
Mienfoo started as an egg given to Paul for Christmas by notinmtsilver, bred by his Mienshao and Infernape. The egg was bred in early December, but didn't hatch until Valentine's Day. Whether she had taken on traits from her egg carrier or naturally had the traits from her parents, Mienfoo was born determined to fight everything she saw... even as a weak and fragile newborn. Paul, who had worried he'd done something wrong because of how long it took Mienfoo to hatch, is very attached to her and dotes on his new baby constantly, as she is prone to getting herself into trouble. Paul is being very careful in raising Mienfoo, currently building up her strength by only letting her fight low-level Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon, and Bidoof. Mienfoo has inherited some powerful and useful moves from her parents, luckily, and particularly enjoys abusing Grass Knot on her opponents.

Mienfoo is Paul's first Unova Pokemon and will prove to be an interesting challenge as he continues to raise her, given that her species is of the glass cannon sweeper variety whereas Paul is more accustomed to battling with tanks.
