I was browsing our church's library last week and found POB's Post Captain. Not bad for one of the few English-language libraries in our city, and a small private one at that! I've seen the movie and read a few fanfics, but this will be my first actual POB novel. Am only on page 17, and have already encountered mention of the Indefatigable, Aubrey ( Read more... )

Oh, you are in for a wonderful treat with those books. I love Jack and Stephen. POB paints such a warm world, it makes you want to go there directly.

Yes! On the same day I found Post Captain at our church library, I also found The Surgeon's Mate at a local sports bar's book exchange shelf. Probably the only two POB books in our whole city, and I found them both! I gobbled up both books in two days. It was a good glimpse of the series. My favorite banter was in the parts with scheming Mrs Williamson, who is just directly out of a Jane Austen novel, and my favorite visual is Jack cringing when Stephen is hailing him in full view of his new ship, standing up in his boat wearing a brown knitted turtleneck onesie, and waving his narwhal tusk. And then informing a horrified Jack that he'd commissioned a onesie for him too! Priceless!

Now I am persuading myself that I must not go to the Kindle store at once and buy the whole series, because then I'll be stuck in my book cave and useless to the world at large for days and weeks on end!
