six bells

So I finally went ahead and got the "Ship's Time" app, which chimes out the bells every half hour. I really like it. It helps me keep track of time. And it enabled the following conversation in my home:

Son, age 7: "Mommy! Six bells!"

Me: "So what time is that?"

Son: "It's....eleven o'clock!"

I had it on my phone for ages. Such a friendly sound. My husband didn't mind the ringing all night. It was familier to him from modern US Navy.

And, having it right there on tbe phone is so helpful for writing AOS!

I am finding it really useful. I lose track of time and it reminds me. And even better, my children are paying attention to the passage of time. I can tell them they can play until eight bells and then they must pack up. Not that they don't need reminding again after that!

The only time the system breaks down is when I hear three bells in the dark and have to check my phone to see if it is 1:30am or 5:30am. Most of the night I don't hear it at all.
