Hi.

I've really only finally logged in to LJ so I can comment on all the wonderful fanfic I've been discovering over the last few months. I'm a reader, not a writer, which makes me appreciate those of you who share your writing even more! My current fandom obsession is Archie Kennedy and Horatio Hornblower, but a few months before that it was Richard ( Read more... )

Sharpe was what led me to Hornblower as well, years ago. So glad you made the trip!

I would love to see more Sharpe/Hornblower fic! They seem to be about the same ages, and Sharpe spent a lot of time on ships, getting taken from this battle to that. And he was in India when Archie was a very young midshipman there, according to Lemurling. He even served with the Marines at Trafalgar. (He did everything!)

I mean Sharpe and Hornblower crossover, not Sharpe slash Hornblower. They each have their own OTP, no need to get into an orgy here.

Hello and welcome to the fandom! And thank you so much for all the comments that you left on my fics! It's so long since I've written any Hornblower fic, but I'm so glad you're enjoying them :)

Thank you!! I think yours were some of the very first fics I read, and they set the standard for everything that was to come. Although the level of authorship in this whole fandom, as I've found it on LJ at least, is astounding.

I think it was you who wrote about the slightly lonely joys of coming to a fandom long after it was mostly dead... Like arriving at what had obviously been a wonderful party, but most everyone had already gone home. And I had to laugh because then you and others created a new party, had fun and went home, and then I finally arrived years later! But it is good to see that some of you are still active, and I prefer to think of this fandom as 'immortal.' And it really seems that the writing gets better and better as the years went on - more thoughtful, well-researched, and shall I say 'canonical?' I mean, one can still derive enjoyment from early fandom stories where, say, Sir Edward married Kitty, and Horatio plays the guitar and tunefully serenades Georgiana Darcy, but since yours were the stories I read first, there's always that voice in my head saying "but we know that's not what REALLY happened!"
