I completely agree with what you've written here. I can't miss what I've never had, and the idea of adjusting to vision isn't one I find the least bit compelling. We're not broken. There's no need to fix us.

I must be unusual, I'd rather lose my sight than my hearing. I once heard it explained that being blind isolates you from things, but being deaf isolates you from people. A generalization of course (curtesy of The Baby-Sitter's Club, I believe), but it's always made sense to me.
