I was trying to work up to writing about Haiti, really I was.

And then Lauren Wheeler posted a poem that said a lot of what I wanted to, but much more beautifully.

Susan brought up Hurricane Katrina in connection to Haiti in a conversation we had just earlier this evening. She was complaining that the news coverage glosses over the fact that CIA meddling in Haiti is a big part of the reason that Haiti couldn't afford better earthquake-proofing. She was also complaining about how the news coverage condemning Pat Robertson's comments on Haiti as being crazy doesn't adequately clarify that those comments amounted to a statement that Pat Robertson supports slavery and thinks that it is evil to oppose slavery.
