When discussing appropriation today, I had to remind my students that being oppressed in the past or in some way does not render one unable to act violently, cruelly, or oppressively.
I wish the UC was doing more to really address the issue. One of our faculty members suggested adding race and ethnic bias to the sexual harassment training that we all have to take. Now that I think about it, I can't believe that it isn't there already. -sigh-
