You know how if you're going out late, or staying at a friend's house, or doing anything even remotely 'dangerous' compared to life in the 1960s your parents insist on you checking in with them to prove that you're still alive and safe? Funny how these role reversals start happening when you're finally an independant being, isn't it?

Last year I got a phone call from my Mum (bearing in mind the distance between Southampton and Inverness):

"Hi love, um, I just wondered if you'd heard from your father?"
"No... why?"
"Well, we were out shopping and I seem to have lost him"
