Election-time Leaflet-time

Today I had three election leaflets awaiting me when I got home. I shall describe them in ascending order of craziness.

The Lib-dem leaflet is full of name-dropping. It's also full of some very stupid policy ideas "Nick Clegg's Lib Dems want action for real tax cuts and job creation to get us through Labour's recession". Gah. It's hardly Labour's ( Read more... )

In UK elections the choice is usually made simpler by tactical considerations. Annoyingly, the European Parliament uses PR, so I have to actually pick a party. As bazzalisk and gaspode have complained, that's rather difficult these days. I've favored the Lib Dems in the past; but I'll have a hard time voting for one out of our three main parties that's anti-nuclear.

I've got a bunch of those leaflets here; I haven't actually read them yet, but I probably ought to before the actual election, and I'll do an LJ post about them.

Regarding UKIP, I can see that it might be desirable to avoid career politicians; one potential problem in politics is that people are so busy worrying about re-election that they focus on short-term goals rather than long-term. So, hypothetically, it might be better to have someone who goes in for one term, determined to achieve at much as they can and then bow out gracefully. Of course, that doesn't mean that UKIP is a good choice!

I did like your comment about the Polish pilot :)
