2015 Themes

Jul 06, 2014 08:49

We've listened to The Big Ol' Poll, Tumblr messages, tweets, emails, and our hearts, and we've come up with our list of 2015 themes! As always, feel free to adhere to them as strictly or as loosely as you like; some of the best stories we've ever run happen when people get real creative with their interpretations. We'll decide specific dates closer to the start of the new year, but for those folk who like planning ahead, we've got you covered.

February: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
I'm in the stars when I'm messing around... around in cars!

March (F/F Special): Some Enchanted Evening
Make some magic on the dance floor, whether figuratively or literally.

April: ¿Cómo se dice...?
Translation issues, language barriers, and the universal vocabulary of sexy times. (The title literally means, 'How do you say...?')
A special note for this issue: We've got a lot of writers contributing to the project whose primary language isn't English. (You wouldn't know it, because they're so good at what they do, but it's true!) For this, we'd like to invite them -- and anyone else who wants to join them -- to turn in stories either partly or entirely in other languages. While many readers out there (and your editor, frankly) would appreciate a translation to run alongside the original, they won't be required.

June: Guys and Balls
Got game? Bring your best sports metaphors and ass-pats and line up to play.

July (Yes, And Special): Circus Maximus
It's the greatest show on Earth! And there's a sucker born every minute.

August: Out of this World
Seek out some new life and new civilizations, and maybe even get some hands-on xenobiology lessons.

September (Artist Special): A Thousand Words
Focusing on the less text-based forms of storytelling: painting, sculpture, dance, music -- you name it. Show, don't tell!

October: Things That Go Bump in the Night
The return of our spooky October tradition! Be sure to say 'I'll be right back,' go upstairs whenever you want, and always, always have sex.

December: Theme-Free Big Bang
And December's yours to do with as you wish. Go big or go small, but go wild!

We've got a few cover slots open, so if you're interested, drop us an email with your top three choices. Preference will be given to artists who've actively contributed to SSBB before, who can do a full-color finished piece, and who didn't do a cover in 2013 or 2014 (or haven't done one at all!). We're hoping to get all those assigned sometime during the upcoming week, so don't delay! All scheduled! It's going to be a great lineup!
