Summary: Nick is fed up with Joe's facial hair and has had enough of getting beard burn.

Original prompt: NICK GETS RASH FROM JOE'S NEW FACIAL HAIR.
I disapprove Joseph, NICK WILL TOO WHEN HIS FACE AND OR OTHER AREAS ARE BURNING. ESPECIALLY ON HIS EIGHTEENTH. HINTHINT.

Nick and Joe were wrapped up in each other on Joe’s hotel bed, legs tangled, arms wrapped loosely around each other’s waists. They were speaking in hushed voices even though they were alone, keeping their words for each other’s ears only. When Joe started kissing slowly, Nick ran his hand up his back and over his shoulder until he was cupping Joe’s prickled cheek

At first Nick didn’t mind Joe’s stubble, in fact he kinda liked it. He thought it made him look hot since he looked older and a little rough around the edges. That was back when the stubble tickled and he’d dissolve into giggles when Joe would rub his prickly cheek against Nick’s smooth one. This wasn’t the case anymore.

Now Joe’s scruff was thicker and scratchy and instead of tickling him, it just irritated the hell out of his skin. Joe still found it hilarious to rub his scruffy cheek against Nick’s even though instead of giggling, now he’d just grunt and push Joe away. Anywhere Joe’s cheek or chin would drag across Nick’s skin was left bright red, itchy and stinging, The insides of his thighs were so irritated from the last time Joe gave him head that his jeans chaffed him as he walked and Joe made fun of him, saying it looked like he had a stick up his ass.

Now that the scruff was starting to really become an issue, Nick found himself getting irritated at it and decided it made his brother look like an idiot. It no longer added an edge to his look but rather made him look dirty and lazy like he couldn’t be bothered with his personal hygiene. No matter how much Nick complained about beard burn or how much he hated the scruff - “Joe, it makes you look like a homeless person!” - Joe just laughed it off and refused to shave.

People were even starting to notice the irritated redness the scruff left on Nick’s face and that was a problem.

Kevin glanced at Nick as he walked towards the back of the bus but stopped and did a double take. Nick was on his laptop on the couch and his cheeks were red and blotchy, the skin around his mouth and jaw were particularly angry looking.

“Nick, are you okay?” Kevin asked, kneeling in front of him and took Nick’s chin in his hand to examine his face closely - exactly like their mother would if she were there. Nick pulled his face away from Kevin’s hand with a slight scowl.

“I was fine until you touched my face,” Nick complained. “What’re you Mom now?”

“Your skin’s all red,” Kevin frowned, ignoring Nick’s protest and tried to catch his chin again but Nick smacked his hand away. “Is it a rash?”

“I don’t know,” Nick said, rubbing his hand over his irritated cheeks. “It was just like this when I woke up,” he lied.

“Maybe it’s an allergic reaction to something,” Kevin said in his concerned-older-brother voice. “We can get a doctor to come check it out.”

“No, it’s fine Kev,” Nick said. The last thing he needed was a doctor trying to figure out what was wrong with him when really? His problem was an older brother that was being stupid and stubborn and refused to shave, even though it scratched him when they made out.

“It doesn’t look fine,” Kevin said doubtfully. “It looks like it hurts.”

“It’s fine. It looks a lot worse than it is. I’m sure it’ll go away on its own, it’s probably just my new face wash or something.”

Nick could see Kevin mulling it over in his mind. He was the oldest so he was responsible for his younger brothers, especially when their parents weren’t around and he didn’t want something serious to go unlooked at.

“Kev, really,” Nick coaxed. “It’s fine. It it’s not gone in a days, we’ll get it looked at, deal?”

That seemed to appease him since Kevin nodded and stood back up. “Okay, we’ll see how it is in a few days,” he agreed.

+++++

That was the last time Nick let Joe make out with him. They’d kiss but Nick kept it brief, not wanting Joe’s stupid scruff to scratch him again. He really didn’t need Kevin to notice and ask about it again.

When Joe tried to deepen the kiss, Nick started to pull back. Joe opened his eyes slowly and blinked owlishly at him, confused.

“What’s wrong?” Joe’s voice was low and quiet.

“You’re gonna scratch my face up again,” Nick said, his voice sound loud compared to Joe’s in the otherwise silent room. “We’re not doing anything until you shave,” he said firmly. Joe sighed and rolled his eyes, trying to pull Nick in close again but Nick just kept pulling back. Finally he realized Nick wasn’t kidding and his eyebrows scrunched together.

“You’re serious?” Joe asked, dumbfounded and Nick just set his jaw and nodded.

“Yes, Joe, I am. Don’t look so surprised, I’ve been complaining about this for how long now? It’s not my fault you don’t take me seriously,” Nick said. Joe frowned and reached up to rub his cheek, feeling the scratch of the prickly hairs against his hand. It was a little rough sure but it really wouldn’t be as bad as Nick complained, right?

“I like it though,” he said defensively and Nick scoffed.

“It looks stupid. It looks dumb on you and it scratches me and I’m just so sick of it. Just shave already!”

“You’re just jealous that you couldn’t have awesome facial hair like this even if you tried.”

“No, Joe, I’m not. Seriously. Just go shave already, please?”

“But it makes me feel rugged.”

“It makes you look like a hobo.”

“No it doesn’t, it makes me look like a real man.”

“A real man would rather get laid than be shut out because of his ugly scruff.”

At this point they’d detangled from each other and sat up, turning to face together. Joe’s eyebrows were knitted together defensively and Nick was scowling.

“I can’t believe you’re going to hold out just because of it!” Joe exclaimed.

Nick growled and suddenly climbed out of bed, yanking his boxers down to show Joe the insides of his thighs, still red and scratched up from Joe thinking it was funny to “tease” Nick by rubbing his face against his thighs before blowing him.

“If you had to deal with this shit, you’d be holding out too!” Nick snapped. Joe’s eyes moved over Nick’s thighs, seeing the angry red blotches stand out against the rest of his pale skin and frowned. He hadn’t noticed how bad Nick’s skin was left in the wake of a touch from his scruff. He reached out to gently tough Nick’s thigh, eliciting a sharp inhale of breath from his younger brother.

“I did this?” Joe asked softly, his voice sad.

“Yes, you did,” Nick said firmly. “And you did it to my stomach and my face and my neck and my chest. Kevin thought it was a rash and wanted to call a doctor. Will you please just shave already?”

Joe frowned and rubbed his cheek again but nodded. He felt bad for not believing Nick earlier and for thinking the whole thing was a joke.

“Yeah, okay. I’ll shave,” he agreed, reaching over to tug Nick’s boxers back up around his hips gingerly. “I’m sorry Nicky,” he said softly. Nick knelt on the bed and covered Joe’s scruffy cheek with his hand and kissed him softly.

“It’s alright, just go shave now please. Then we can have some fun,” Nick promised. Joe grinned at that idea and jumped off the bed, rushing to the bathroom, grabbing his shaving kit from his bag along the way.
