Welcome!

jenyum introduced the group to Stumptuous.com, a great site for women who are interested in working with weights.

Hello! Don't be intimidated! So many of those guys are usually wrong, anyway. Just tell them "thanks, but I'm OK" and do your thing. The lower body is key: squats and deadlifts and more squats and deadlifts will do wonders for your bodyfat%.

All the buff guys at my gym have little tiny chicken legs and spend all of their time doing pullups on *my* power cage. It's fun to slap on some 45s, they go away.

I've been hanging out a lot at the Oxygen Magazine message boards lately, all women who lift heavy.

Thanks for the encouragement! I just need to get over my weirdness of walking into to the weight room! haha I think a lot of it is attributed to the fact that I work out at a university gym because it's free since I'm a student. It's a really nice facility, they just re-did the whole thing- but the weight room is ALWAYS full of huge college athletes and buff guys and I just feel so silly walking my 110 lbs in there and picking up weights! There are hardly ever any girls in there, it's just so odd! It's sort of that "you belong on the treadmill and eliptical attitude!" grrrrr! I am feeling much more confident after all the encouragement and my reading- I think I will give it a try! I'll keep you posted!

A lot of guys would be glad to see a skinny little woman like yourself taking interest in weight lifting, as the women who only go to the gym to lose weight and don't bother to increase their muscle mass are kinda the subject of mockery by the men who only go in there to lift weights.
