Wow...it's been a while.

It's been a wild month.

The Canada Day long weekend saw the big move out of the old house and into my new apartment. To save the cost of a rental, we borrowed Angela's Aunt's truck. Unfortunately, it was only a small pick-up truck and it took us a lot longer to move everything than we had anticipated. We were also unable to use the service elevator (as it was booked up) and had to take everything via the regular elevators. But, considering that the elevators can only be booked for two hours at a time, having the service elevator would have been useless as there was no way we could have done everything within two hours. It was tough with only two of us but we suffered through it without major incident. Once we finished everything, we headed back out to Oakville (with a supper stop along the way) to return the truck. We took the GO Train back into the city and finally got home around midnight. We each took a quick shower and settled in for our first sleep at the new apartment. The remainder of the weekend was for unpacking and exploring the neighbourhood.

I was back to work on the Tuesday (I took Monday off) while Angela stayed at the apartment to continue with some unpacking as she had taken the week off. We had talked of moving in together next year when my lease expires (we would give notice and look for a place together) but then Angela's mom suggested that she move in with me when her lease expires in November. But then we figured, since we'll be spending so much time together anyway, we decided to move in together right away. So Angela brought her cat over along with a few other things to start the ball rolling. Then on the Friday (July 7) I called Rogers to order my cable, phone and internet. My install date was scheduled for the following Friday. I could have had it for the Saturday (July 8) but I had to work to make up for taking Monday off and Angela was unavailable that day as she was busy with her parents.

On Sunday, July 9, we had Greg and Angel over to the Apartment for a belated birthday dinner for Greg. Angel almost didn't make it as she had been feeling under the weather that weekend but at the last minute she decided to come along. We ended up having a wonderful evening of great food and great conversation.

The following week was fairly uneventful. I called my building's management office mid-week in order to book the service elevator for Angela's official move-in at the end of the month. As it was early in the month, I managed to book the elevator without any problems. And on Friday, the Rogers tech showed up around 6 pm. They normally get the roof key from the office (because that's where the cable box is) but the office closes at 4 on Friday's. Luckily, when I booked the elevator I was given the number for the on-duty superintendent, which I called. All I got was voicemail. I left a message with all my pertinent information and waited for the call-back. When we hadn't received a call-back by 7, the Rogers guy went ahead and hooked up the equipment anyway. I continued calling the super's number but still didn't get an answer. The message from the main office number said call the super until 8 and then call security. At 8, with no response from the super, we got a hold of security but, as luck would have it, they don't have master keys. The Rogers guy said he would be back Monday.

On Saturday, we went to IKEA. It was my first time. We had a quick lunch at the restaurant and then made our way around the store. I never imagined how huge this place would be. The item we wanted to buy was too heavy to take on the subway so we just picked up some knick-knacks. A clock, wind-chimes, a wok, a little plant stand, some small plastic food-storage containers. Afterwards, we went to the Eaton Centre and I bought a couple of pairs of shorts. Later in the evening, we went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. It was so awesome. We both loved it and are so excited for when the third part comes out next year.

The remainder of the weekend was uneventful.

Monday evening was spent at home, waiting for the Rogers guy. He did not show up. I was pissed off.

I called the Rogers customer service line on Tuesday afternoon. I explained what happened and the rep said that the tech should never have hooked up the equipment without the service being connected and furthermore, he should never have promised to be back on Monday without having me call to set up another service call. But guess what? The entire system was down countrywide so the rep couldn't do anything for me. I was told to call back later in the evening as their system should be up by then. She told me the centre is open until 11 pm. I called at 8 pm...the centre was closed.

I called again on Wednesday. According to their records, my service was online as of 5pm the previous day. I checked when I got home. They were wrong. I called again and got the same response. I told him..."I'm right in front of the equipment...nothings working." We tried some troubleshooting but nothing worked. Another service call was made for Thursday.

The tech called me mid-afternoon to see if I was home. I told him I wasn't but that all I needed was the service connection because all the equipment was already set up. He called back an hour later and told me what idiots the building management were. I already knew this. Apparently, there is only one roof key. The contractors renovating the balconies have the key. The contractor who actually had posession of the key was not in the city. The contractor was supposed to be back the next day so another service call was made for Friday.

I got home Friday to find everything working but I could't connect to the internet. I didn't have time to worry about it as we were bringing more stuff over from Angela's old apartment and then we were going out to dinner with her parents.

Last Saturday was awesome. One of the best days I've ever had. After bringing another load of stuff from Angela's old place, we all headed out to Niagara Falls for the rest of the day. We got their around 5 pm and we dropped the parents off at Fallsview Casino so they could hit the slots before seeing Julio Iglesias at 8:30.

After a quick stop at the tourist information centre for directions, we drove to the Butterfly Conservatory. It was amazing. So many different sizes and colors everywhere. It was absolutely beautiful. After that, we headed back to the casino to park the truck and then we walked over to Clifton Hill where all the touristy stuff is. There was so much stuff we wanted to do but we didn't have enough time. We started at the Guiness World Records Museum. Next was Louis Toussad's Wax Museum, the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum and then we went for a round of Glow in the Dark Mini Golf. After the mini-golf, we went to Wendy's for supper and then went to the Hershey's store for chocolate stuff. On the way back to the casino, we stopped at a gift shop to pick up something for Angela's parents as a token of thanks for all they've done for us. We got back on the road around 12:45 am. I think we finally got home around 3 am and we just crashed. We got some pictures from the wax museum. I'll post those another time.

I called Rogers tech support on Sunday and discovered that my internet protocols were still configured for Tim's router when I shared his service. I got everything fixed up and I was back online. That evening, we went to see Clerks II. Quite the interesting movie. I really enjoyed it. Not quite the brilliance of Clerks (in my opinion) but still very funny.

Last Tuesday, we packed a couple of overnight bags and we stayed at Angela's old place for the remainder of the week in order to pack up the rest of her stuff. On Friday afternoon, we met Angela's parents at the Clarkson GO Station and headed to the U-Haul place to pick up the truck. The elevator at my building was booked for the following day between 10 and 12. Even though Angela confirmed the truck booking until 6 pm Saturday, we were told it was due back by 7 am. Our time table was fucked. We picked up our sofa from IKEA and got to Angela's old place by about 7:40 pm. She couldn't get the service elevator at her building so we had to take everything out via the regular elevators which took a little longer. We got everything out from her place around 11:30. Then we headed to our building. It was a definite pain in the ass living on the 33rd floor and having really slow elevators but we managed and we got it all in. As we didn't have a bed set up (I got rid of my futon because Angela has a king size) we headed to Angela's parents in Mississauga to spend the night. We returned the truck, got to the house and got to bed around 5 am. It was a long night.

Yesterday we got up around 1 pm and got ready as Angela and her mom had dentist appointments at 3. We got back home around 6 and we started clearing things away so that I could start putting the bed together. Neither Angela nor I were feeling the greatest yesterday so after we got the bed together and set up the sofa and a couple of bookcases, we decided we just needed to relax for the rest of the evening. We went to the convenience store to pick up beverages and chips and came home, had a quick shower to sluice away the sweatiness and settled in to a movie. We were invited out with Greg and Angel to see my buddy Mike but unfortunately, we just didn't have the energy for it.

Thankfully, Mike is still in town until tomorrow so Angela and I are going to be meeting them later this afternoon at Kensington Market.

But thats about it for now. Sorry it's so long.
