 When I am reading I normally don’t mark in my book. I just try to get through it hoping that I remember what I have read instead of trying to understand it. I used to mark and take notes in high school because it helped me remember what I have read when I go back and read my notes that I have marked down. Yeah it definitely helps to mark stuff down! I've learned that the hard way as well. It really is a great technique to use though for memorizing! :)

I think marking as you read can be useful. However, I also believe that as you read more and more, both for school and in your free time you gain the skill to store what you've read for longer periods of time. It takes repetition to fully develop the process necessary to understand most larger texts, but overall once you've got it it never truly fades.
