Spring is the time for self-improvement. I should try to look like a human being by getting a tan and working out. I just hate that these things really play a part in who pays attention to you. I can't help but feel like I would be simply perpetuating the emphasis on looks that our society seems to stress as uber important. I feel like I value a ( Read more... )

hey Mark,
that you're taking philosophy reminds me of a book I seriously recommend to you: The Universe Next Door by James Sire. I'm not going to lie, the author is a Christian so the book is admittedly written from that perspective, but basically in it he tries to accurately explain the major "worldviews" people have, and the differences between them. The book covers Christian Theism, Deism, Naturalism, Nihilism, Existentialism, Eastern Pantheistic Monism, New Age thinking, and Postmodernism. As I read it I keep thinking of you- I think you would find it interesting.

take care.

Ryan-
Today I filled out a student credit card application for a boy from Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny. I couldn't remember if that's your school or not- I tried really hard to remember this boy's name incase you knew him, but there were too many names after his and I lost it [it wasn't Jimmy]. Anyway, I thought of you. Hope all is going well, kiddo.

Hahah. CHINO!

I should check out that book. We've been learning about postmodernism in school a lot lately. It's interesting but confusing at the same time. Thanks for the recommendation though. I hope things are well with you, sir. Have a good time.

if you can, try to find the 4th edition because it's supposed to be more up-to-date i guess. it's probably not even new information to you. and just so you know, by recommending it i'm not expecting it to change your life or anything. i don't even expect you to agree with him- i just thought it was pretty interesting as a brief survey of worldviews and thought you might enjoy it.

and really, if you have any recommendations for me, i'd love to read what you've been studying.
