Favorite Vegas Hotel

I'm going on my first post-baby business trip in October.  Jared will be coming with me to Vegas so we will fly out two days early for a mini-vacation.  The second two nights are at the conference location, Mandalay Bay.  Now we just need to decide if we want to stay there for the first two nights or if we should try to find something cheaper.  I' ( Read more... )

I've never been to Vegas, but I've always heard that The Venetian is really nice. That's where I've always wanted to stay. :-)

I'd love to stay there also, but at $600 per night, it's a little out of our price range. It certainly is beautiful though!

Yikes! I've never seen their rates that high! I get email specials all the time for less than $199 per night.

I'd be much more likely to try it for $199 per night. October is Vegas' busiest month for conventions, hence the inflated prices. I would love to stay there sometime though.

I've stayed at the Luxor a few times and I really like it. Since it's shaped like a pyramid, the elevators go diagonal, so it's a little different. It also connects to a tram that will take you to a few other hotels so you don't have to walk (one time I went to Vegas in November and it got pretty cold at night, so that tram came in handy). I think we only paid $79 one time and $99 for the other visit. Oh, and we saw the Blue Man Group which performs at the Luxor. You are going to have so much fun! Are you going to a conference?

My boss loves the Luxor but his girlfriend refuses to stay there because he's been there with other women!

Yes, I'm going to some industry association meetings. I'm hoping to get a couple good meals out of it also. Any suggestions?

The Stratesphere is a cool restaurant, but a bit pricey. Still, the view is worth it!

The last time I flew out there (about a year ago), I stayed at Bally's (very inexpensive) and really didn't care for it. It was close to Paris but the room and casino just wasn't very nice. Something about mildew in the shower and a rip in the comforter that especially creeped me out. At first I didn't care because I didn't plan on being in the room much, but I would spend extra next time because it would be worth it to me.

When I went out there about five years ago, I stayed at the Monte Carlo and liked it. The rooms were fine and I liked that I was in the middle of the strip. We were at the hub of everything.

If you are looking for more "adult" time with your hubby, I would avoid staying at Treasure Island because that has a lot of kids and families, which means the pool area will be full of them. Not a bad thing, but if you're looking for quiet time, it is.

Okay so that wasn't exactly what you were asking for, but I hope it helped somewhat.

That is exactly the type of feedback I'm looking for! Thanks!

Well, obviously it all comes down to price. Sure, there's the Venetian/Paris/Bellagio but they're high. I stayed at the Imperial Palace which was alright - about 3 stars. I liked the location and was willing to trade the level of luxury. Perhaps if you gave us an idea of what activities you'd be interested in, it would be easier to steer you toward a hotel.

Don't forget about downtown either. The Golden Nugget is very nice.

Oh - and I've heard that they are trying to move TI away from a kids/family place. The pirate show now imvolves lots of sexy, half naked women and other, more "adult" themes.

I've only been to Vegas twice. The first time we stayed at the Tropicana, which was a bit of a dump, but was cheap and clean. ;) I think it's being torn down now. That makes me sad. They had an awesome pool.

The second, I stayed at the Excalibur (cheap) and it drove me crazy. Not that we spent a heck of a lot of time there, but everywhere we went inside the hotel, there were kids. That hotel seems to be the most kid friendly (it's like Disney World inside). Quite frankly, I don't believe Vegas should be a family vacation spot, so it drove me nuts to see all these kids around. I am sorry, but when the cocktail waitress is walking around with her butt hanging out of a thong, I don't necessarily want my seven year old child witnessing that. ;)

But ... cheap and clean. ;) I would stay at Mandalay Bay - go ahead! It would be annoying to stay in one room for two nights, and then pack up and go to another. I hear it's a great place to stay.
