I think that Blaine trying to mentor someone older than him (presumably older--he could be an old sophomore, did he finish school after being assaulted, etc.) actually says tons about his character and fits in very well.
wait, what? why? I get that he just has to fix everything around him and when we talk about Kurt, even more but saying that it suits him better to be a Junior than Kurt's age, it doesn't make any sense to me. Sorry.
It's not better, I didn't say that. But it doesn't contradict anything either, and I find the story compelling on an emotional level in a different sense than I did before. Or maybe just more familiar, personally. Either way, it's not inconsistent with previous characterization, or even other canonical things, like Jeremiah saying Blaine would be underage.
Now worries. He was NOT supposed to be 15. More likely 16. And I have faith in the writers. I was sour on it at first, but they have yet to let me down, knock wood. Even the disastrous BIOTA, in the long run, turned out to be good thing.
