Young Jack's anticipation is quite exquisite; he misses his friend, and doesn't even realize why. How can we hope otherwise except that his anxious wait will be relieved soon.

Once the weather cooled, he'd just as soon read a book in front of the coffeehouse fireplace than chat up a girl. Jack smiled as he remembered all the years when both he & Ennis had done their homework together in front of that fireplace. Ennis's mom would bring them potato chips and hot cocoa and they'd stay until both places closed and it was time to go home.

I love that even when he's supposed to think of girls, his thoughts drift to the assocation with Ennis instead. Lovelorn!Jack is ever such a sweet and satisfying image. That spell really got him good.

"I love that even when he's supposed to think of girls, his thoughts drift to the assocation with Ennis instead."

I think that's what happens every time, but hadn't thought about it that way until you mentioned it. That would be quite telling, wouldn't it? :)

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment!

It's a little sad that Jack has been left alone, seemingly abandoned by everyone. But I'm sure that he will brighten up once Ennis returns. I'm off to read the next chapter. I'm hooked! : )

"It's a little sad that Jack has been left alone, seemingly abandoned by everyone."

It is, isn't it? What a lonely summer he had!

I'm so glad you're hooked! He will be glad to see Ennis, but then things will get kind of confusing for him.

Oh, I liked this Prologue very much. I'd like to know more of the history of these boys. I feel for Jack's loneliness, but he knows his friend is coming back. He is, isn't he? lol!

How wonderful, too. A little shop on the beach called the Sun, Moon, & Stars. And a coffee shop for Ennis' folks. A coffee shop always stirs up thoughts of warmth, good coffee, nice soft music, and dim lighting. Can't wait to read the next part. I think this is off to a really nice start! Lv2walk

See, those are all the things I think of, too!! And there used to be a wonderful coffeehouse in VB, but it wasn't on the beach. I used to go there and hang out and listen to the music while reading a book and eating apple pie.

They will reveal more of their histories as the chapters continue. I loved writing about their strong friendship!

Thanks for reading and commenting!

LOL, I just realized what I read was Chapter 1. When I went back, then I saw the Prologue. What a goof! I loved the Prologue, too. Especially the end. Uh, isn't it really supposed to be for a boy and a girl? Oh well! Oh well indeed. Always love a young Jack and Ennis. Okay, now on to Chapter 2!

"Oh well indeed."

I know! That was a little bit Love Potion #9, wasn't it? But I love that idea!

Oh poor Jack....wanting.....what? He doesn't even know what he's longing for? His mind fixed however on his friend coming back next weekend, where everything will then feel better. Oh.....Jack! What a beautiful soul.

This was a lovely heart warming first chapter. Thank you so much

'Besides, Ennis would be back next weekend.

That gave him something to look forward to for the next week and a half.'

He'll be back soon Jack to warm you heart once more:)

Love and hugs

*claps hands in delight*

Oh, I love your comments! Thanks so much!!

And you're right. Jack doesn't really understand what's going on yet. They've really never been apart and he had no idea he'd miss Ennis so much!

He may have taken him for granted a little bit!

And I'm rather fond of Jack's soul, myself :).
