A completely arbitrary milestone

Since I left the Army several-mumble years ago, I had gained weight at an average of 3 pounds a year... creeping upwards from a very fit 220 pounds to a plateau of just over 330 pounds. That is to say, once I hit 330, my weight gain slowed significantly. My highest recorded weight was 338 pounds, last May ( Read more... )

Congratulations! This is the lowest you've weighed since we went to Florida just before Labor Day 2011 to get Vijay!

I kept a record of our South Beaching, which we started around Labor Day 2010. We had plateaued, but were maintaining the weight loss. You and I quickly gained it all back and then some once I started taking care of him. Stress, and lack of time, are the enemies of healthy eating.

BTW, the highest weight I reached last summer was over 285. (The other enemy of healthy eating? Being in too much pain to stand at the sink and wash a head of lettuce!)

I am happy to say that this morning I saw our doctor and I weighed 238.9! That's less than my lowest South Beach weight!

Here's the weight table I kept three years ago:
Date Woof Becky
9/17/2010 322 263
10/4/2010 315 261
11/5/2010 304 257
11/19/2010 301 255
12/20/2010 297 254
12/27/2010 294 249
1/3/2011 296.6 253
1/10/2011 295 251
1/17/2011 293 253
1/24/2011 289.6 253
1/31/2011 289 ( ... )

Hmm.... the new LJ layout doesn't recognize some of the table formatting it used to recognize. Tried to reformat but the columns are still running into each other. Sorry about that!

Congratulations!

It does appear that we *can* do what it takes to be healthy, if only we set our minds to taking care of ourselves. Neither of us was very good at that in 2013.

No, we weren't very good at taking care of ourselves, or of each other, that year. I'm sorry.

Doc suggested today that I get a second opinion about ankle fusion surgery, that perhaps a total ankle replacement would give me better results. I can't do either now, of course, since I have no one to help me with the three-month recovery. But eventually I'll have to do something.

Weighing less really makes no difference to my ankle, because the arthritis and missing cartilage hurts like the dickens no matter what. But weight loss makes activity easier, and activity helps preserve what range of movement I have left. Also, it's easier to wear the clothes I like when I can wear smaller sizes!
