So, I'm a little weirded out that everyone seems to have picked up Supernatural a million years after it started airing.
At a freaking Supernatural convention, everyone I talked to was like, "Yeah, I started in season seven," "I found it in season eight," "I'm old school; I got here in season five

I confess I'm more than 2 seasons behind now. I got tied up with going back to school and then I was so behind I didn't know what was going on and just haven't caught up. Is it worth it to catch the last few seasons? Or has the show seen better days?

Although, I do think they've seen them all--it just throws me off when people are so shocked that some of us actually started at the very beginning.
As for catching up, it's totally worth it, in my opinion. I don't know when you fell behind exactly, but season seven was certainly a little bumpy--even I fell behind by like half a season at that point. Like 90% of season seven existed just to make dick jokes, which was tough to get through every now and then. But it regained its footing, and I actually think the past two seasons have been pretty good--season eight was rocky at the beginning, but it definitely recovered and ended up being pretty freaking awesome. And nine was actually largely pretty damn good in my opinion. It's different in a lot of ways, for sure, but not necessarily in a bad way--I still love it as much as ever. There are a few things I've got some issues with, but I really do think it's worth the effort to catch up with it again.

I got behind at the start of season 7, so yeah, I'm that far behind. But I do miss the show, and sometimes happen to catch one of the earlier season episodes on a cable channel. Makes me want to do a series re-watch from the beginning and catch up. But that could take some time! ;)

I actually just did a full nine season rewatch in ten days. I was emotionally destroyed afterward, but I did it. Haha! It was kind of awesome. Although, warning, I rewatched on Netflix for the first time ever (I've only ever used my DVDs before), and they change the music on season one, which sucks. So, you know, just a warning in case that's the method you were considering. :)
