Themes don’t interest me. Symbols don’t interest me. Allegory doesn’t interest me-nor do allusions and clever alliterations. Ideas interest me, for what is the value of these others if they are not in the service of an idea. Obviously stylistic elements of anything (literature, film, art, any aesthetic) have to be in the service of something deeper. Ideas are of paramount importance in any type of artistic endeavor. There aren't many artists out there who are sitting down with a pen or a camera or a paint brush and saying "hey, I'm going to create something that doesn't have any substance or any type of deep emotional resonance to it at all. I think that will be fun." Also, when you say ideas interest you, aren't all of the things you just mentioned (themes, symbols, allegory) all representative, to one degree or another, of some idea? Don't these tools strive to create some deeper sense of meaning within any text? Do you think the author is just using them as a means of masking how ideologically bankrupt his text is? That's a pretty shortsighted view to take. These things aren't just there to be there. They're there for a purpose.
