I'm going to start The Audacity of Hope soon. I think you're right to start with Dreams FROM My Father. It's good to get to know the man first!

The Road is an excellent short read with some bleak and powerful imagery. I still have The Reader on Mt TBR, in fact in German as Der Vorleser. This actually means reader in the sense of lecturer, or someone reading aloud.

I read it last year and I enjoyed it.
I actually believe that, people in general, need to think about the word 'enjoyed'. The Road wasn't fun. I'm glad I read it.

I totally agree with you about the "enjoyment" bit. I've read lots of books that I can't say that I've enjoyed but am really gald that i've read. For instance, Disgrace by Coetzee, I didn't "enjoy" it and didn't like the main character much, but the effect of the book was still with me weeks later. Is this the mark of a "good" book I wonder?

Let me know, please, if it's worth reading by an Antipdean, one who would actually like some peace and quiet in the world.
