My wife - oodles smarter than me - pointed out you have to consider the candidate's audience.

Abe and Steve-o were talking to the (supposedly) learned white (and male) landowners of the day.

Also, considering all the Joe and Jill Six Packs out and about nowadays, you want as many people as possible to catch your drift. You have to count on some of us not being so bright, like when the producers of License Revoked changed it to License to Kill because they figured 007 fans wouldn't know a Revoked from a hole in the ground...But then we have Quantum of Solace coming out now so, hell, maybe we're all getting smarter.
