I think there are a few scary things going on in the world that most people either know nothing about or casually dismiss. This level of apathy really worries me ( Read more... )

Barack Obama is the second leading recipient of contributions from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. He can hardly claim legitimacy on reforming this crisis, while McCain on the other hand co-sponsored a bill that would have imposed regulations of Freddie and Fannie that could have averted this crisis. That bill died in committee because Democrats, lead by recipient #1 Chris Dodd, stalled it. If we are looking for real reform, I think the choice is clear: speeches or actions?

You are right Nick, actions to speak. So if money shows a lack of desire to reform, then John McCain is also in trouble. I cite the following article with a nice table from the Federal Election Commission to show how much Senator McCain has also benefited from those at Freddie and Fannie. Since we are on the topic of actions how about McCain having so many advisors that were so heavily tied to Freddie and Fannie and helped pushed and agenda that led to their downfall? What does that say about actions for a man who surrounds himself with people like that? So thank you for sharing part of the story, here is a link to the whole story.

Ok, first the New York Times is no longer a credible source for objective journalism. You may as well have cited Keith Olderman's diary. Second, since both candidates have recieved money and both have former lobbiest in their inner circles, we can look to the only other place that Senator's can make a difference, legisltation. What has Obama's legistlative record been on reform of Fannie and Freddie, or for that matter on anything? He's been in the Senate for 3 years now, that's half a term. Just as it is with everything else, Senator Obama has chosen speeches over actions. The man who wrote two autobiographies, cannot even be bothered to write a piece of legislation?
