Title: Lions & Serpents

“Come along, Hermione,” Severus said as he led her out of their house to Apparate.
With a soft crack they left their back porch and Hermione found themselves standing outside of Hammerstein's, one of the most prestigious restaurants in wizarding Brittan.
“We’re eating here?” she asked a bit surprised, for even though they’d only been married for three months and dated for only another four, Hermione knew Severus well enough to know that he did not enjoy frivolous expenditures, and a posh restaurant certainly counted as one of those unnecessary frills.
“Yes,” he said simply as he led her inside.
They were seated at a private table. So private in fact, that it felt to Hermione that they were the only two dining in the entire restaurant. It was a spell, of course, but it just reiterated her pleasure at being part of the wizarding world.
They shared a bottle of wine and ate their dinner. When their plates were cleared Severus pulled out a small box from his robes and set it before her.
With a sly smirk, he nodded his head towards her, indicating that she should open it.
The box held a pendent with a gold chain.
“It’s beautiful, Severus,” Hermione said, lifting the intertwined lion and serpent pendent from the box.
He arose from his chair and stood behind her as she lifted her hair and clasped the chain around her neck.
“I know that I am not always the easiest person to live with. I have always been a recluse, a loner,” he said as he sat back down. Once seated, he reached across the table and took her hand. “I am grateful those meddling people helped bring us together.
“I know that I rarely say it, but I do love you, Hermione. Happy Birthday.”
