Bye Bye Birdie (1963)
Why in the world don't they make more fun musicals like this? I really enjoyed the heck out of it.

Joe Bob says give it a whirl.

"I'm fightin' for my rats"

Yeah, I have some problem with the portrayal of lee, because because he comes off so much as a doddering fool, and yet, is generally regarded as a brilliant general. However, Picketts charge was SO monumentally ill advised that I can't see anyone that would order it being anything BUT a "doddering fool".

On the other hand, Napoleon accepted battle at waterloo, Oh well.

Everyone has an off day. Having the God's eye view of that battle that we have, and hindsight, it's so easy - at least for me - to forget how _little_ Lee knew about the battlefield, and the stunted perspective one has of the Union position from below.

Which - give them credit - is one thing the movie showed well.

I think Lee's legacy would have been better served without the Lost Cause fools buffing it to a needless shine.

It's not perfect but I love it. It captures the feel of so much of it. Yeah, I can't tell which bunch of rocks they're fighting over, but hell, their regimental commander probably didn't know either, let alone the troops.

It's been the Memorial Day movie for the kids a few times, but sometimes I stop it after the defense of Little Round Top rather than go on to the second disk.
