the italian socialist and her passenger make their way across the conservative dutch town in their foreign-made automobile while listening to modest mouse at a volume somewhere between whisper-level and not-so-hushed-tone. no, they don't really feel intimidated by their surroundings as one might think. on the contrary, they are quite confident in ( Read more... )

i like that: "this is just one example, one family, in a town of thousands." i have this weird thing that when i'm walking or driving around, i just want to know the stories of the people in certain houses... and it's this powerful feeling, it's not just a little curiousity. i just stare into windows and wonder what's happened there until they're out of sight. and i'll never know ( ... )

thanks for the feedback. originally this little story was about two teenagers listening to modest mouse, so it made more sense. then i changed it to a mother and her son, but i still wanted modest mouse in there because i was listening to them when i wrote this. but i agree, after reading it again, the sentence you talk about doesn't quite fit with the rest.

i know what you mean about feeling self conscious about your journal. that's one of the main reasons i don't really do many personal entries. i was censoring a lot of mine too. even though i don't write personal stuff in an up-front way, a lot of the emotions or settings or philosophies in my fictional stories are closely related to my own at the time i write them.

i'm not sure what my favorite modest mouse song is. i've listened to float on a lot recently, but just because it's really catchy. i like third planet a lot, especially the lyrics.

yeah, keep me posted if you make a new journal. no, i won't judge you.
