Hi there, I've had a saltwater tank for the longest time, is this your first tank? If it is, I have a suggestion for you, put a lot of dead shrimp/alamang/crabmeat into the tank. Over the years, I've found out that the bacteria which keeps saltwater fish alive comes from the decaying bodies of other animals. They never teach you this, so the mortality rate among saltwater fish is very high. The fish literally die so that the others will survive.
No it won't. Usually they will eat most of what you put in, but bits and pieces will be left behind unless you have some cleaner shrimp or hermit crabs. I think they used to sell processed bacteria in Cartimar, but I haven't seen any on their shelves for a while so dropping some shrimp (frozen or otherwise) is quite a good alternative.
