Chapter Seventeen and HBP

I saw the film... I don't quite know what to think. I mean, this one had Snape stalking all over the place, sexy as ever. The scene at Spinner's End left me wanting to write a Bella/Severus/Cissy oneshot and Snape telling Dumbledore off was bitter-sweet, but I thought overall, it was a bit mediocre. Ron is a really poorly written character, ( Read more... )

Ha ha, well, I enjoyed it - I was completely absorbed in the action from start to finish, and I think that's the mark of a good film. I completely agree with you about the way Sirius' death was just, well, ignored! Very odd. And Ron is a well-written character in the book - I think the screenplay does him a disservice, making him this constant comic-relief goofball. It's even less believable that Hermione would fall for him.

I thought Gambon as Dumbledore was actually quite good in this film though, and Slughorn was good, and Bellatrix was fab. And Snape was really, really...Snape. He didn't do his hysterical screaming fit during the duel scene at the end, though, which puzzled me (though I was also a bit relieved because I secretly don't much care for emotional!Snape, and I'm dreading all the maudlin Lily stuff in the final film).

Bella was sublime. I love Helena Bonham Carter, anyway, so her and Snape together was delicious... It wasn't a bad film, I know, and like yourself, my eyes were fixed to the screen. It seemed to just fly by. I guess I'm just depressed because I know it's the beginning of the end. Not to mention the fact that the seventh book was sort of rubbish. I'm confused as to why they need to make two films. It's just a lot of camping. The thing about the sixth movie that capture most of my attention was Narcossa's hair. Hehehe. Oh! And no Lucius scenes. :(

Isn't it just the epitome of class? 'Oh yes, this is our penis chandelier; we think it's a lovely contrast to the vagina sofa.'

I loathe Sirius, so I don't care about any angst over him. You're right about Ron, he's poorly written in both the books and the movies; he's sort of a very dim witted Robin to the Harry/Hermione Batman.

Ms_Figg has written an SS/OC story called 'An Unlikely Savior' that finally gives him some stature. It's the first time I've really admired Ron as a character.

I still haven't seen the movie. The theaters should be relatively kid free by next week and we'll go then.

Thank you! Ron is my least favourite character in the series. He's so brutish and... Immature. Perhaps I'm biased, though; I attended an all-girls institution and never really came into contact with many adolescent boys. But still... I think that the film was good and riveting and Snape was at his absolute best, might I add.

Sirius is my least favorite character. He's also brutish and immature, and he got away with attempted murder when he sent Severus to the Whomping Willow that night. He may have been innocent of the crime he was imprisoned for, but he deserved to be there for attempted murder.

Rickman is always at his best in any performance. I've never seen him give a bad one and he's made some mediocre movies worth watching. Why else would anybody watch 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves'?

Did you get my reply to the PM the other night? I wrote one and clicked the send button but something went screwy and I never got the 'Your message has been sent' notice.

Actually, no I didn't get your response, which is sad. You're a wonderful conversationalist, Trickie. I always get so fustrated when there are glitches or other misfortunes that delete everything I've typed.

Rickman is a saving grace, isn't he? One of the worst films I have ever seen is Dark Harbour, which was absolute rubbish, except for Alan's homoerotic/nude scenes.

I've never considered Sirius's actions to be 'attempted murder', but you're absolutely right. He was a bad influence on Harry, rash, careless, and just generally obscene.
