Got this from Scary, who gave me the letter "C". I must list five fictional characters and give a little blurb about them.

1. Clara Trueba from The House of the Spirits: I don't think I've cried harder over a character death (except for Snape, of course) than this lady right here. I was on an aeroplane going God only knows where and lost all control

Thanks for the letter "C" then! I was so happy when I got my old Claudine books out. House of the Spirits is an easy read and you should definitely treat yourself with the film. Jeremy Irons is only just below Alan on my list, so I loved it.

Oh, now I have always wanted to read those Claudine books. I think I'll put them on my holiday reading list. Fascinating choices, with great explanations. Mellors is such a knob, isn't he? Hateful man.

Normally I love "woman leaves husband for a better lover" books, but Lady C was so blah. I didn't even care what happened to her. I loved Emma Bovary, but Connie was just annoying. And Mellors--with his fake local burr and aloofness--good riddance. And I say read Claudine. They're my favourites.
