WOW. I mean, that is just simply amazing!!! I plan to go a year from November as my graduation present to my self - I seriously hope I can pull it off - and I want to spend at LEAST 2 weeks there...if not longer.

And I hope to hear of LOTS of stories when you return! ;-)

You can pull it off if you just plan for it and don't give up on it just because something else comes up or it gets a bit difficult. When I was broke in college, I went on two long trips to Asia. People couldn't believe I put the money together. My trick was, as it is now, you say you are going and act that way right up until the plane is taking off and you are not on it. Only then do you allow a sliver of doubt to enter your mind or your actions. You create your own reality and the world of what is "possible" will open up before your unbelieving eyes!

To paraphrase Thoreau, in what was perhaps his greatest piece of wisdom, "Walk boldy in the direction of your dreams...live the life you have imagined"

Oh, and you better believe I will have LOTS of stories to post! ;)

Wow...quite poetic... :-) I have about 68k FF miles on AA that I can put towards that - so my ticket might be about 300 bucks or something. My friend Chris will pick up the hotel and rental etc. So really, I just need to check on time - it's always working against me!! :-)

American Airlines cooperates with Qantas. It takes 80,000 miles to get a free trip. 12000 miles will cost you roughly $300 so you are right about that. Though I would try to get the 12000 miles made up between now and then.

Are you going with this friend Chris, or meeting him there? Awful nice of him to pick up the cost of the hotel and transportation!

WOW, Ty... I'm totally jealous! It's been my dream for several years now to go "down under"... but I just never had the vacation time or the budget. Your trip sounds AWESOME!!!! I want a full report---with photos!

BTW, will you plan my next vacation?!? Damn... you did some great research, found lots of cool things and got great prices. While I love traveling, the planning and research can become overwhelming and stressful... glad you had such success...

there will of course be a full report with photos.

You should definitely go. No time like the present, start planning it now. I would love to plan the details! If it paid consistently well, I would love to plan people's vacations for a living. Actually, I would go in on it with a friend of mine. I am great at finding accommodations and big events. My friend is amazing at finding that little museum of ancient islamic art that you would have had no fucking clue was tucked away somewhere in the town you are visiting. Between the two of us, I think we could help people have the vacation of their dreams on any budget and in any location.

um, exactly how awesome is that..?! me saying "have a great trip" seems reltaively redundant... but the sentiment is there... let me know if for some reason either one of you can't go and you need someone to fill in. I volunteer. I promise great sex, amazing head, and excellent conversation over dinner. Also, I'd be hilarious to take on that crazy boat ride... i have this thing that I try not to scream like a girl, but do when I'm really freaked. It's a riot.

Anyhow, since I doubt I'm the first to volunteer for the fill in, much less you'll need someone to fill in... you had better post everything about this trip...

it's sounds fucking awesome...

could you come up with something for me to do in Tucson?

Tucson? you drive a hard bargain, but I bet I could!

and your comment about the boat ride screaming has me smiling widely. Your other comments about the great sex, amazing head and excellent dinner conversation are creating an entirely different reaction! ;)

I will definitely post all about it :)

That's incredible. I'm more than a little jealous!

Well, if there was ever an emotional reaction I would have wanted to engender in you, jealousy wasn't it ;)...but I have to say that I am SOOOO excited about this trip, and I would be jealous if someone else was taking it. Its a stupid wish, but in my dreams this kind of trip would be something you did with like 10 other people, some really good friends and others friends you were eager to get to know better...it would be one hell of an adventure!

But, Scott and I will do our best to have the best time and share the memories with all our friends, real or virtual. :)
