Okay, I am copying the text of a response to boywondermark's post about the new show Amish in the City. HERE

I just caught the replay of the pilot episode and was giving my amended feedback on the cast since my first impressions were from the pictures of them on the website.

This will only make sense to those watching the show, so the rest of you feel free to pass on by if you wish )

yeah, Jonas is cute but i have to admit i was a little disappointed when he sounded like he was ready to turn his back on his faith after so short a time. of course, it could be he had already been considering it before the show started or perhaps he was just thinking out loud and nothing will come of it.

all in all i think it'll be an interesting show.

I think he had already been thinking along those lines prior to the show. I don't know if you caught it, but from the intial interviews of the Amish folk, I got the distinct sense that at least a couple of them had already begun their rummspringa. In fact, I think all of them might have as it would have been difficult to conduct a legitimate casting call for people who had not yet gotten that measure of freedom in Amish country. I think they chose people who had not yet taken full advantage of being in their rummspringa to venture very far from home, so they were still pretty tied to their old way of life. They obviously have normal clothes (as normal as normal can get for Mose anyway) already, and I am pretty sure they were all wearing their amish clothing in the first scene solely at the direction of the producers...I get the distinct sense they had been used to their normal clothes for at least a short time prior to the show.

That's another thing. I thought rumspringa was for teenagers. Mose and Randy are far from being teens, right?

Mose said he wasn't allowed to go when he was the proper age and that he was making up for it now. I missed the first couple of minutes so I don't know what Randy's story is.

I caught the pilot and have to say that I was really disappointed. Like you, I was mostly interested in the Amish kids' rummspringa and seeing how they handle the experience and where they go from here. But I really have little respect for any of the city kids. They didn't want to let the Amish into their house (Ariel opened the door because she thought they were the neighbors) and they've been nothing but negative about any traits/habits they consider "Amish ( ... )

I couldn't agree more with your observations and sentiments, Jen.
