Best Fake Mic: Hairbrush or Lint roller?

So, I'm desperately trying to reboot myself after the holidays - coming home after a good time down home is more depression causing than a bad time, for some reason - so I'm listening to my sure-fire good mood lemmehearyousayyeah! (yeah!) play list and am currently stuck comparing Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle" vs. the same of the Black Crows ( Read more... )

Might I recommend anything by Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show? "Got Stoned and Missed It" is my favorite. I mean, Shel Silverstein wrote most of their lyrics. How can you go wrong? Also here are some mixes for happy-making.

Giiiiirl, now what would that be nuts?

Oooo, Walking On Sunshine, that was on the first mix tape I ever had! And oh my, I've gone to sample the first three suggestions of yours, and I do believe that I'm going to have to set myself a purchasing budget.

Thanks, lovie! I came home and it was so damn cold in MA, and my house was still in as many To Be Done piles as it was before.

Oh, yes, absolutely to so many of these: Lady Marmalade, Signed Sealed Delivered, Somebody to Love, Bang a Gong and Code Monkey are often played on my iPod when I’m wanting to feel happy.
I’d also have
Brimful Of Asha - Cornershop
Ça Plane Pour Moi - Plastic Bertrand
Country Girl - Primal Scream
Delilah - Tom Jones
I’m Just A Girl - No Doubt
One Way Or Another - Blondie
Pump It - Black Eyed Peas
Start Wearing Purple - Gogol Bordello
and, umm, John Barrowman singing Don’t Fence Me In. No, I can’t explain this either but the song never fails to make me smile.

OOOOOOh, thanks for the recs! And hey, I'm pretty sure that John B singing a cowboy song would make me smile, too!

I'm... embarrassed to say that the soundtrack from Footloose gets me up out of my chair with reliability. Or most anything by They Might Be Giants, even Bare Naked Ladies.

Well, damn, I was in a local production of Footloose and I forgot how good the music was!

Jeff loves TMBG, and I do, too, especially Birdhouse in Your Soul, but I catch myself stoping and trying to figure out what do they MEAN??

Ooh yes, that's a good one. I also like the cover Muse did of that song - very sassy.

::jaw drops:: Why did I? How did I not KNOW about Nina Simone? I think I got her lumped in with Edith Piaf and Billie Holiday as singers whose voices are so interesting and different, that I'm paying attention to the technique, etc, but THIS? This is smack dab in my range, and has a warmth and richness and class and EXACTLY what I wanted but didn't know that I did. ::blinks a bit, then tacklehugs you::
