The orange object is freeform peyote with ruffled edges and embellishments. It's worked along the horizontal, not the long way like you might normally do a bracelet with branching. I've been working a little bit fully, peyote stitching off the edge, working a bit more. I think that's what gives it that organic look. It's bigger now, almost done, I'd better post it. The embellishment is looped fringe through the peyote beads, about 10 beads deep, so this is a thick one.
I've used a bunch of books. I like the Carol Wilcox Wells books for inspiration, though I have some trouble understanding her charts. I use the Interweave press sitch books (Diane Fitzgerald's brick stitch book, etc.) And I pull a few bits and pieces off the magazines and make them depart radically from the design. (I get bored with pattern, could not follow one even if I tried.)
