Return of the King, yeah baby!

Typed out from some notes I made before going to bed that night:

Where to start?

Firstly, Faramir is so my new boyfriend. Or should I say 'finally', that is, because for Two Towers I was all set up for him to take Legolas' place in my heart, but then he turned out to be an asshole in the theatre version, but redeemed and rebalanced on the whole when I watched TT Extended on Boxing Day afternoon. TT's Flashback!Faramir is such a sweetie (even if his father does hate him), it made it all the more heartbreaking when Denethor sent him back to Osgiliath in RotK.

And whilst we're on Denethor, the man is an ass. And a total frtuicake. Gandalf was such a gun when he clocked him one. And on the fruitcakiness, I had totally forgotten about Denethor trying to torch Faramir. I was very nearly devastated that they'd try to toch my new-found lover. I mean Legolas fights in battle (yet despite his Oliphaunt mountaineering stunt, still is nowhere near getting killed), but atleast his dad doesn't try to make him into toast. Or maybe he did, but we just never heard about it...

So, Legolas is still (and will always be) my first LotR fellowhip love, but now my heart belongs to Faramir.

And Eowyn can go shove it. Yay for all her feminine power and uprising (really) but I always hated her attempts to steal Aragorn away. Had she have kissed him, I would have yelled out "HOMEWRECKER!", but she didn't, so neither did I. Power to her though for the killing blow to the Witch King/head Ring Wraith, although...didn't Merry do it in the book?

Ah, the hobbits. How I love them. Sam and Frodo...well, their love is such a wonderful thing *sniffle* and Pippin rescuing Merry out ont he battlefield from under the orc was magnificent and heartwarming. Hobbits are so special :)

Other random things:
- Aragorn can be my king anyday, especially if he lets me hold Anduril.
- Eomer seemed to lack a bit of presence...or was that lines in general?
- Gandalf the grumpy? Try Gandy the comedian. When he's not commanding forces, the man is hilarious!
- Legolas and Gimli's continued counting game followed by the "it only counts as one!" re: the Oliphaunt mountaineering incident.
- Theoden seemed to have a bit of a relapse to stupidity before the watchtower flames were lit from the Gondor end...wtf? I thought he was all good and had his brain reattached permanently after the siege at Helms Deep.
- The battle crowd scenes...kept thinking "it just can't get any bigger than this!" but then it always did...even when they had to out-do 8 oliphaunts.
- How many times did you spot Peter Jackson's kids in this film? I got them twice...Or rather, the daughter twice, but the son once.
- A bit of Saruman would have been nice - dishevelled and wandering through the woods or trying to wade out from his front door or something (like in the book) would have been nice.
- I saw a drinking game Gimli/Legolas scene somewhere, which I assumed would be in this film, but it wasn't...did I blink and miss it, or is it on the rest of the appendices of TT and I just haven't gotten up to it yet? Or, is it going to be on the RotK extended, a whole year away??

I think that's pretty much it.

Well, aside from the fact that Shelob had me literally cowering in my seat, nearly curled up. I wasn't shaking in my shoes though...
