If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more

Spent the beginning of this week laid out by some sort of bug. Have progressed past the chills and headaches that makes me want to practice self-trepanation and have moved on to coughing up a lung and barely being able to speak (probably because of all the coughing).

However, this did lead to some time to catch up on TV! (So, yay-ish?)

1) Like the subject quote implies, my love for the Romola Garai/Jonny Lee Miller version of Emma is ridiculous. I actually discovered the series a few months ago when a local PBS station ran it as part of its late-night programming but lately it has become my go-to show for everything. Need something playing in the background while I hem my jeans? Emma! Need to listen to something because the headache is keeping me up and looking at a screen makes it worse? Emma! Want to just kill time watching something random? Emma!

Everything and everyone's so pretty. I adore all the characters and despite it being nearly four hours long, I wish we were able to spend a little more time in Highbury.

I just wish that every time Jonny Lee Miller popped up on screen, I didn't immediately think about how sad it was that his character was destined to go down in a hail of bullets on Smith because Simon Baker was a douche who didn't understand the concept of not drawing attention to oneself when one is a wanted criminal. I guess it's good that "The pool's on the first floor you idiot!" is no longer my first thought upon seeing JLM on screen, but now I don't think I'll be able to watch The Mentalist without blaming Jane for getting Mr. Knightley killed for a good while.

2) Because I heard that Alana de la Garza is bringing Connie Rubirosa over to Law & Order: LA I decided to check out the show and was surprised to find I loved it. It was like a throwback to early days L&O, but with sun and sand!

Everyone seems to rag on procedurals nowadays, but I still love them. Not every show has to be about its character's personal lives! (That's what SVU is for!) I hated the direction the Mothership took in its last few seasons (the aforementioned delving into personal lives, the season long arcs, the lack of Order [it felt like no case went to trial/verdict in that last season] and the breakdown of the classic cops and lawyers split.) I do wish they didn't have to let Skeet Ulrich go, and I hope the cast shakeup is the only change to the format. Either way, it was really nice to be all excited about Law & Order again.

tv: law & order, tv: emma, tv: smith, tv: law & order: la
