My Greataunt Violet has passed on.  She lived a long and happy, if oftentimes hard life, raising her four children in rural Pennsylvania.  In addition to caring for her own children, she also did what she could to help look after some her sister's six children (my father and his siblings) when her sister and brother-in-law divorced and couldn't

Hail and farewell Greataunt Violet. May you find the peace you so richly deserve in the arms of your ancestors and keep the fires warm for those to follow.

She sounds like a wonderful woman and you were blessed to have her in your life.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. Aunt Violet was indeed a special woman. She loved her family, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. That love was also extended to, and deeply felt by, all of us in her extended family. She loved to laugh. Aunt Violet had a marked "mountain Pennsylvania" accent, and a bold and hearty laugh. I can hear her laugh as clearly as if we were sitting at kitchen table playing a hand of Pinochle, another thing she loved to do. Her laugh was infectious. It makes me smile, even now.

Just came upon this, 2 weeks late as usual . . .

Belatedly, my condolences on your loss.

And I suspect she may indeed become one of your family idesa. She sounds like she was already doing the job, like the best of them :-)

Thanks for your thoughts, M. I was able to visit her grave when I went home to Pennsylvania over the Thanksgiving holiday. I feel better having done so.
