This morning I had my first eye exam in ...let's just say WAY too many years.  Yep.  Bifocals.  I really am old.  The whole experience was actually quite pleasant.  I really like the doctor I saw.  He's the same doctor I saw on my last visit... WAY too many years ago.  I don't know why I've put this off for so long.  Life just gets in the way, I ( Read more... )

Heh, yeah. I've had bifocals for almost 20 years. Haw it been that long? Yes, got my first pair when my 22 year old son was about 2. Then I had to get "computer glasses" for work 'cause the distance part was too close and the close up lens was too far away for clear screen viewing. Now I have no line bifocals. I love them. You can't tell I have bifocals and the transition area is perfect for mid range viewing. Indeed, good advice. Get your eyes checked regularly. I have pretty good insurance, thankfully. My last pair cost $15 including eye exam and they did some extra testing because I have some relatives with glaucoma. My safety glasses at work, which are also no line set me back all of $45 and it's the same scrip as my regular glasses, frame looks exactly the same but a big larger and heavier.

Yeah, mine are the "no line" bifocals, as well. They really are awsome. I was a little concerned it might take awhile to get used to them, but there was no adjustment time at all. I'm happy, my eyes are happy... and it's so nice to read a book again without having to look over the top of my glasses or take them off!

Heh, not so old ... a year or so younger than me judging from your school dates :-)

I put it off for ages because I couldn't afford new glasses and because I was hoping big frames would come back into fashion. Wound up having to get vaguely Buck Rogerish frames instead . . . and they are already oxidizing in the sun here, so it must have been a while now.

Besides, I can go without glasses if I absolutely have to, especially now my eyes have changed :-) Perk of being old.

Glad you like your new glasses and adjusted so fast!

Frith,
M
